I am planning a trip to Europe and was planning to include London on one of my spots. Someone told me it isn't worth it. It's ugly, the people are ugly and the food is awful.

Is this true? If not, do you recommend anything?

That's true, but if you're an American then the rest of Europe hates you.

You should come and give us your tourist dollars, instead of eating frogs legs and insects in some soiled French bistro.

You should avoid Paris if anything, it's full of cheese eating surrender monkies who will drain your purse while sneering at the back of your head.

I live in London, and have had many friends and relatives visit - there is so much to do and see - some of the best sights include:

- Big Ben
- Tower of London (where you can see the Crown Jewels)
- Buckingham Palace
- Trafalgar Square
...just to name a few

The people are very friendly, just stop at any pub or cafe, and get talking to the people nearby, most everyone will chat with you.

And the food is incredible - you can get some very good meals at pubs - some are "gastropubs" and their food is quite good. And, there is every cuisine you would want - French, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Indian, you name it, we have it all here

It's the best place to visit on the planet and it would be a shame if you missed it!

I have lived in Michigan my whole life, but I was sent to live in London for 3 months for work a few years ago. I loved it! It's NOT UGLY, trust me! There are so many great landmarks to see... Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and Parliament (ever see National Lampoon's European vacation?), Hyde Park, Stonehenge, Windsor Castle, and the pubs that were build in the 1400's. People are very friendly, and they speak English! I think London was the best place I ever travel in Europe (including Italy, France, Spain, and the Netherlands).

London is definately worth it! The buildings and history are beautiful and amazing. I recommend going on the London Eye, as the view is spectacular. If you don't have a lot of time, go see the Tower of London, and take at least one ride on the tube. If nothing else, get a day ticket for one of the tour buses that let you get on and off as you like, so you can at least get a feel for the city. As for the food - there are a lot of grocery stores around to get makings to pack a picnic. It will be cheaper and be more to american tastes.

Hey, I'm going to London at the end of September. I've never been but the group of people I'm going with have so much stuff planned that I can't see how it could ever be boring. I know one guy who swears up and down that London is the center of the western world.

I went and had a great time. I went to a bunch of the live Operas in the old Theaters, saw the Palace, London Tower where they keep the Crown Jewels. I am a history buff so that had something to do with how much I liked it. It is no Disney , if that is what you like.

NO! That is not true. There are parts of London that are really lovely and the people are of the most part very nice indeed. St. James park and various other parks really are beautiful and worth seeing. St. James park is right down near Buckingham Palace, there used to be a man there in the park that had trained a whole family of squirrels. They were very tame and answered to the names that he had given them.

It is absolutely worth it. It's a beautiful place and it's a cultural melting pot of all kinds of people and influences. I'd definitely recommend going. The food can be good, but it depends on what you call good. I can't vouch for pretty or ugly people, but it's a very memorable place.
