Can you cheat? Do you use a ball? No?
Competition is NOT the definitive factor of whether or not an activity is classified as a sport. You can compete in a game, but a game is not necessarily a sport. Tiddley Winks, Spelling, building chain reaction domino displays, are good examples of organized activities that include competition, but are not sports. Check the "sports" section of your local newspaper to see if your activity is listed there. Again, you gotta be able to either cheat or use a ball to call it a sport.

Yes:
"A sport consists of a physical activity carried out with a recreational purpose for competition, for self-enjoyment, to attain excellence, for the development of a skill, or, more often, some combination of these. A sport is typically charactized by physical activity, competition, self-motivation and a scoring system. Sports differ in their dependence upon a set of individual or team skills, as well as in the ways in which they have their participants compete."
They do not compete at the actual games, but they have cheerleading competitions where they score points.

It depends on the team.
Some cheerleaders are all about being cute and popular and cheesy cheers.
But that's not what cheerleading really is.
Serious cheerleading is an exhausting mix of gymnastic, dance, and strength (stuntwork).
There are huge competitions for skill.
For people who dont take cheering seriously, please attend a cheer practice.
When I cheered, at practice we'd:
run several miles
spend an hour on gymnastics (jumps, floor, etc.) and dance/cheers.
spend an hour on stuntwork and strength training (you try lifting someone over your head!)

i personally dont really care if cheerleading is a sport or not...but i do wonder why golf or bowling is considered a sport if cheerleading is not. that doesn't make any sense to me! cheerleading can still be considered a competitive and challenging...i was actually in cheerleading back in hs and some of the stuff we did was tough..plus we trained (worked out alot) for it. there are also competitions for it so i guess it is an opinion if it is or not!

im with the ones who say it is because they DO work as hard as n-e athlete would dont ya think? im not a cheerleader but i have friends that are and they would complain about bruises, cuts, and stuff like dat they would come home with sprains, fractures, and maybe even broken legs or sumthing so they work as hard they compete so cheerleading IS A SPORT!!

Yeah, it's a sport in the sense that they're working out like crazy and they practice hard like in every other sport. they also have competitions against other teams, so yeah. but fi you say that it is you also have to say that dancing is a sport. cuz that's just as hard. so maybe if it was just a club. or maybe a team that's not a sport.

it depends. If they are competeing doing extreme jumps and what not, then yes. If not, then no. A sport is not a sport if there is no competition. But if there is, then its a sport

i think so because it take as much efforts as any other sport. you have to participate as a team and it just as hard work as whatever you consider a sport. what about badminton, table tennis ,pool, etc. they call those sports and is compete in the Olympic and world wide. what you said to that.
