Because in the UK the weather is totally unpredictable. Personally I'd do away with bank holidays and just give everybody an extra week off to be taken at odd times. It would save a lot of hassle at airports and shops etc. These days most folk 'bank' through their pc anyway.

I think the weather is party controlled by the emissions of traffic, so when weekend comes, there is less traffic and it causes the weather to do funny things.
