as most traditions have become, one is looked upon as being selfish not to. not unlike Christmas for example, every where you look between Oct-DEC. the economic machine is working full time convincing you to buy a latest new thing you can't live without. To give is only a gift if it comes from the heart, so a personalized item you make yourself is the best gift of all. else your presence should be gift enough.

Its Proper To Bring one , if you don't you will be the only one that they will remember, the girl that brought nothing but herself, the one without a gift, just give a card that's all you got to do, OK,(this is why people invite other people for gifts thats all)

you should bring a gift but not an expensive one. a bottle of wine or champagne is good enough. i'm assuming that if you are going to the engagement party you will be going to the wedding shower and bachlorette party AND the wedding... save your money... a simple gesture is enough.

NOT REALLY IT WOULD BE A NICE GESTURE BUT YOU SAVE THE GIFT FOR THE BRIDAL SHOWER, I MEAN YOU CAN GET A GIFT BUT NO ONE WILL THINK YOUR A TERRIBLE FRIEND IF YOU DON'T AND DEPENDING ON THE TYPED OF PARTY IT IS..? IS IT LIKE BABY SHOWER STYLE OR ARE WE ALL GETTING TOGETHER TO REALLY CELEBRATE!! IF BABY SHOWER STYLE A NICE GIFT THAT THEY BOTH CAN ENJOY LIKE MATCHING BATHROBES OR SOME JUNK, IF NOT THEN DON'T TAKE ANYTHING AT ALL. ESPECIALLY IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT.

It's not required but would be the best thing to do even if you only get them a 20.00 gift card.

yes. It doesn't have to be huge though. Bring wine or a gift certificate.

yes...it would show class. It doesn't have to be something expensive, but just a thoughtful congratulatory gift that the couple can use in their future home

I don't think you have to take a gift, but if you are a friend or a relative I think it looks bad on you if you don't.
