You don't so much need a topic as you need a starter. Start with anything you think they'd relate to - usually that means a TV show, a recording artist - keep it fluffy, and once a bit of their own interest has shown itself during the course of the exchange, jump on that and veer off into that direction. Generally speaking, folks love talking about themselves. The art is getting them to do it and having fun doing it. Look interested. Nod and smile and look in the eyes and guide the conversation with quick questions thrown in.
