If they isolate the gay gene, what happens next?

Will homosexuals get civil rights or will the Biblical literalists and naysayers of science fight it to the death like they have evolution? Will it make it harder or easier to hate homosexuality for those of you that do?

Edit: For the record, the question says "if," not "when." my firm belief is that homosexuals have every right to conduct themselves in any manner they choose because it's not my place, or the government's, or the churches' place to judge them. and if you want to get biblical, the New Testament was all about avoiding the jugdement of you brother. Rather, it was to love them unconditionally as your Lord does.

I'm not gay, and i tried to make that question as unbias as possible, but if you want me to take a side i will fight and die for a gay person's right to be gay if they want to. I don't give a damn if it's genetic or if it's choice, Gay is fine by me.

Coragryph -- I assume If you want to enlist the help of God as judge, jury and executioner, you would need to ignore the New Testament. So thanks for you input, Roy Moore

it didn't stop them when they found out the earth was not the center of the universe so i doubt this will change their views on gays

Even if the gay gene is isolated, AND Biblical literalists accept the science, the debate will not end. Ultimately, those opposed to homosexuality will still say it is a choice to ACT in a homosexual manner.

If I'm a Biblical literalists, this is how I would respond to the news: "Okay, so you have a genetic pre-disposition to be attracted to the same sex. Big deal. That doesn't give you the right to do gay things any more than my genetic predisposition to like women gives me the right to fornicate or commit adultery. Just stay celibate the rest of your life, and I'll be happy. You can do it."

It's a little silly, and I don't agree with that reasoning, but I'm pretty sure that's what will happen.

First, what civil rights are gays denied? What civil right will they be denied by finding a "gay gene"?
Second, if they isolate a "gay gene", then gene therapy is possible. Whether or not you do it on an infant, fetus, child or adult and who makes the decision will be the subject of much debate. At this point in time, it merely a philosophical question.
Third, how would isolating a "gay gene" change any persons attitude towards gays?
Fourth, you are throwing out PC and buzz words. Try to make a logical argument for your position.

well if that does happen there will be a debate that will probably end in something along the lines of, like abortion, pro-choice. the will probably be:

If ther parents dont want their baby to be gay, which is most likely the case, then they have the right to rid the child of it.

I dont think thats right, but church has always been seperated from state (supposedly) so the religios extremists wont have much of a say.

But were not even sure if there is a gay gene. So...keep me posted.

Psst, I've got a secret for you. Homosexuality can't be genetic, because homosexuals would not procreate, therefore they can not pass their genes. Some of us paid attention in Biology class.

There is also the fact that homosexuality is a behavior. All behavior is a choice. Your body does not have a mind of it's own. Nobody in the history of mankind ever drank alcohol while saying "help me, I don't want to drink, but my body drove the car to the bar all by itself, then it forced me to walk inside, buy a drink, pick it up, and drink it." You control your body, it does not control you. Homosexuality, alcoholism, obesity are all choices. Stop inventing excuses and face reality.

Being gay has nothing to do with biological factors such as genetics. And what gives you the right to "hate" them for doing something that makes them happy. I'm sure most people don't "hate" you for asking stupid questions, because it aparently makes you happy. I saw we would all get along better if we minded our own business. It is not the governments business who people fall in love with and want to marry.

It is completely ignorant to say that homosexuality is a crime or inmoral, you don't see any of them having sex in front of everyone.....what people do in the privacy of theirs homes is their decision and problem....Still, there is not a gay gene, homosexuality is something we learn or have from inside....I believe it has to do with our minds, problems from childhood and experiences. Still, there is no way we should be talking about making homosexuality illegal, or do you think they should make many sexual positions or actions illegal too????
