sounds to me like you should find a new career direction altoghether!!!!
I am in sales and do not necessarily like telemarketing or cold calling either, however I do not understand why you only don't want to call on existing customers. there is an old saying that it is far easier to keep a customer than to gain a new customer
you should be happy, you are contacting a captive audience, most cold calling results in doors being shut or telephones being hung up because people already deal with another company.

If its a current client list, it isn't cold calling. Cold calling is working off random lists. If they are already clients and you are calling to find out if they could benefit from new rates or services then that is valid. If you try this, and get mostly negative or abusive responses, take those to your boss and ask her if she can rethink it or come up with some ideas to present to her on what you think would work better. Give it a shot first before you really decide you hate the job - unless you can afford to potentially be out of work for a few weeks.

You should follow your instincts. The question is, was this what you were agreeing to when you accepted this position? If not, you can possibly bring that to your new employers attention and try to come to some kind of agreement. And if that doesn't work, you probably have every option to resign. Now everyone is suited for every job. Now, if you were receiving unemployment compensation before you took this job, you may have the chance of going back on to at least supplement your income until you find another position. And you could always consider temporary agencies. They are usually looking for skilled workers. So, if you haven't found a job you like, you can shop around until you find what you're really interested in.

If you really hate this part of the job then you should probably tell your boss. If she is unwilling to take this off of your plate then you should look for another job.

Was this discussed in the interview as one of your job responsibilities? If not, then just let her know that you are not comfortable with it and was not aware that you would be doing it.

I would explain to her everything you just said above. Then if she doesn't change her mind, and still persists that you do it, leave and find a new job.
