Hello all,

I've had stubble for a few years, as I had problems when I used to shave. I've now got to go clean shaven for a new job, but every time I shave I get serious irritation, red bumps which turn into white heads... all around my neck.

I wash my face with warm water before shaving (very expensive electric shaver with 'sensitive' setting), and use after shave balm immediately after, then using moisturiser to keep my skin soft. Nothing works, I still get very irritated and break out in spots.

Does anyone have any advice? How do electric shavers compare to dry/wet razors?

Thanks

If your using electric dont wash first, use a little talc on your face and wash afterwards.

I never liked electric though, wet shaves are better and if you have sensitive skin will cause you fewer problems if done right.

Shave after you shower, apply some shaving oil and then gel for sensitive skin and give it 5 mins before you shave. Take long, slow strokes with the razor moving with thr grain and be careful around the neck the hair can change direction a lot.

Afterwards, no alcohol adn let the skin settle befor applying any creams and allways pat try, dont wipe.

One more thing, ingrowing hair can be a problem, particularly if you are black. Use a soft toothbrush after your shower to loosen these buggers up.

I hate electric razors. They are so lousy! (Hint to the ladies: never get a man an electric razor unless he asks you for one.) Ordinary shaving is so much better, in spite of the risk of getting cut. My guess is that your problem is either your electric razor, the moisturizer you use, or the temperature of the water you use. I recommend you shave wet with shaving cream and cold water, and then wash your face with soap afterward. I remember reading somewhere that hot water isn't good for shaving. Get a razor with two or three blades because the single-bladed ones usually don't work well.

If i was you id use a Gillette wet shaver, get the battery one as its better than a normal 1,also don't wash your face in soap after you finish as soap will cause spots on your face,i use this aftershave balm from Avon its in a brown tube and it smells amazing,if you go on the Avon website you should see it on there,it isn't that expensive either,i never get spots any more, also do this tip when you use a new blade on a wet razor, rub the blade on the palm of your hand, just under your thumb, and the razor wont cut your face,i promise you also it wont cut your hand,my dad told me this years ago and it really does work, good luck.

Wet shavers have the same prob. Try rinsing with cold water after the shave...it closes the pores.

Yeah! I have the same problem my friend!!! You have to buy a new razor (shaver) or use a mild soap. That is my tip!!! The razors are the best!!! You have to clean that very well, with hot water. Take care my friend!!!

I use wet razors because I could never get the same finish I do with a wet razor. Maybe your skin is very oily and putting lots of moisturiser on it isn't helping that much, or it is because you are getting ingrowing hairs.

Plucking (tweezing), Shaving, Depilatory creams and Waxing are temporary hair removal methods.
Waxing usually lasts for 3 weeks, but it is painful.
Electrolysis and laser hair removal are "permanent" hair removal methods but are expensive and you have to find a trained professional, otherwise your skin could be damaged.

You'd probably be best using aftershave. It will sting like hell but close your pores.

You are obviously shaving wrong tho cos it sounds like you're getting ingrowing hairs try shaving with the grain instead of against it.
