It was just two days ago! Definitely call them and thank them for the interview and express how interested you are in the position. They might be busy doing a background check as we speak so I would not stress over the time thing.

Wait until it seems appropriate, and call them asking about it (don't sound overeager, just like you're making sure that they're in the process, or something like that). "Hi, I'm calling concerning a job interview I attended on Wednesday the 23rd... I was wondering what the conclusion was in the case of my interview? Thanks."
Ask to talk to the appropriate person... and work on the end of that last part, I worded it in a weird way... lol. This way, you will sound interested, but not overeager... like you are a person who likes to be involved, which they consider a very good thing. Make sure you do this in a way which will sound so! Good luck. ;)

Girl, if you want the job - let them know. In the job I have now, I asked them in my interview when they might be making a decision to narrow down candidates. I told them that I needed to know because I had other interviews that I needed to make a decision on, but that this was the job I really wanted! They told me that was their deciding factor (after I was hired), but called me the next day. If you want the job, let them know. Nothing beats a qualified enthusiastic candidate. Good luck!
p.s. Hopefully, you have sent an email of thanks for their time for discussing the position with you.

It's possible they're still interviewing candidates or someone involved in the decision is out of the office.
You want to appear eager, but not impatient. If you haven't heard from them in about a week or so, it's appropriate to call.
Tell them you're still interested in the position and ask where they are in the selection process.
If they've decided not to hire you, they'll tell you then.

I have always found it is best to show you are persistant and interested so always call them to check on the process. If they give you a time-frame then you wouldn't need to call them unless you hadn't heard back after that time-frame had expired. I would give it two days or so then call them, so I would call them today to see. When you talk to them, be friendly, Hi, How are you doing, excited about getting started wanted to see if you had made your final decision, okay thanks, that sore of thing.

I would wait an appropriate amount of time before calling them. They probably have a lot of applicants to go through. If it seems like it's taking an ungodly amount of time (like two weeks), I'd give them a call and politely inquire.

In your covering letter let them know that you will contact them in 2 weeks time...
"... I will follow up this letter in 2 weeks time by telephone (etc). Should you wish to contact me in the mean time, my phone number is..."
It shows them that you are serious... but just make sure that you really follow up unless they call you first!!
