I am ecstatic about it! Bout time I say. We talked about it a bit in one of my classes, and after the professor told us Pluto is no longer a planet about half the class (all the ones studying astronomy) jumped up and cheered. We have been waiting for this for 3 years now and are glad it turned out this way.

Pluto has long been a disgrace to the word planet, and has long confused many a people. Pluto doesn't follow the normal laws governing the formation of the other true planets, and it fits much better into the comet category than it ever would as a planet.

Also glad they came to a compromize and still left a category for the BIG things in the small body classes (what they now call dwarf planets) because this at least highlights a bit on our idea of round things being special.

My reaction to the decision is mixed. On one hand, it seems like the decision makers were right as they'd have to name a lot more other planets but on the other hand, it seems unfair to Pluto.

I don't know whether you have seen but help sign the petition supporting Pluto as a planet and not a dwarf planet. Check out http://pleasesavepluto.org/

I was depressed. But I was taught there was 9 planets so now I have to get used to 8 planets. Plus since I am a scorpio and it was ruled by pluto I have no idea how that effects my sign.

*sigh* Oh well, too bad for pluto... Although probably most people in this generation and maybe even some in the next will still consider little pluto as a planet

I'm glad that the scientific community wasn't afraid to change Pluto's status just because a bunch of school children will get mad.

I guess it'll take some getting used to. Like when people learned that the earth is not flat, it probably took a while before everyone really got used to it.

It's sad really. As we discover more about our universe, its natural that we should discover MORE planets. We should not demote ones we already have because we're scared of widening our horizons to include more astral bodies.

Yeah, it really puts a damper on my weekend travel plans too. Now I gotta get my passport changed and find connecting flights from Saturn...it's just a big headache now.

Whether on not Pluto even exists is totally irrelevant.
