my baby is six weeks old and I started out breasfeeding full-time but then added a few bottles and now it's about half breast half bottle. He doesn't seem to digest the formula very well and it makes him so gassy. I know your milk production slows down if you supplement. But I would love to go back to breastfeeding full time, is there any way that's possible, how do i do it?

Nurse more often. Do more skin to skin contact with your shirt off and baby just in diaper. Try the TwenyFour Hour Cure (in bed, you and baby doing nothing but nursing as much as baby will let you; rest for you increases your nursing hormones as does more skin to skin contact with baby). Try breast compression http://www.kellymom.com/newman/15breast_compression.html If you want to see videos of compression try here http://www.gentlemothering.ca/DRNewmanVideos.html Try fenugreek or, my favorite, alflafa (herbs work better if your'e blood type A or B or AB but even O's can get some benefit). Cut back an ounce in each bottle every day or two and nurse before and after each bottle. If you have a pump, pump as much as you can manage.

GOOD LUCK!!! You can do it! Keep an eye on diaper count while doing this.

Try feeding on demand, no schedules. The more you nurse the more milk you will produce . Also remember to drink extra water during the day and a big glass while you are nursing. If the supply isn't coming im fast enough, try pumping in between feeding for about 5 min each side. Too much longer than that will actually slow the production. Contact a nurse from the ob dept, they always have helpful information. Good Luck!

Yes, you can. Just start slowly cutting out the supplements and nursing more. You'll want to go SLOWLY.....like cutting an ounce of formula per day. Breastfeeding is supply and demand.. The more you nurse or pump, the more milk your body will make. You may want to add some pumping sessions to help boost your supply as well. Nursing or pumping more frequently is better for boosting supply than nursing or pumping longer per session. The link below has good information on how to wean from supplements.

The more the baby nurses at the breast, the more milk you will make. Just let the baby nurse as long as possible, each feeding, before supplementing. or, nurse more often. Feed a supplement only if the baby still seems very hungry. Good luck!

Yes! As long as you are still producing milk, you can get your supply back up in just a few days. Breastmilk production works on supply and demand, if you demand more milk, more will begin to come...first, you must latch your son onto your breast every 30 minutes, this will mean he will be draining as much milk from you as possible (prompting your body to produce more), also, you must gradually decrease the amount of formula you are giving him. I would decrease it by about an ounce or two every day. As you decrease the formula, your supply will increase. Soon, he will be weaned off of the formula and onto the breastmilk. You are doing the right thing. The breastmilk will be so much easier on his system and so much better for him! Good luck!

This is a good question I breat feed also. When I am at work my fiance mixes half breast milk and half formula it gets her gassy but she loves her breast milk wont have it alone. I was going to see if I need to change formula but it might be normal. I stick to breast feeding and when I am work have him mix it. But my boobs are always full. So just keep pumping.

Good Luck!

Yes it's very possible. Your body will make as much milk as your baby demands. There are several ways to increase your milk again. The key is stimulation. Allow your baby to nurse as long as he wants. Even if it appears that he's finished and fallen asleep, allow him to suckle as long as he wants. Sometimes my babies would do this for 45 min or longer. This trigures more milk to let down, and also tells your body to make more. Allow him to nurse as offen as he wants. Inbetween feedings you can stimulate your nipples yourself too. This tricks your body into thinking that your baby is feeding, and causes the milk to let down. Around 6 weeks babies go through a growth spirt, and offen cluster feed. This means that he could want to nurse as offen as ever 1/2 hour or so. Usally there's about 1 1/2 hours inbetween feedings. Allowing him to cluster feed will also tell your body to make more. Once you start doing these things, your milk will increase within 2 days. Your body is quick to respond to your babies needs. If all these things don't work, Fennel seed tea,as well as oatmeal are natural ways to increase your milk. You can get fennel seed tea at health food stores. There's also a drug called Domperidone that you could use for a couple weeks to get it going. God Bless

Pump! Pump! Pump! Also, let your baby nurse as often as you can.

Also, get some Fenugreek from your local health food store. That can help with your milk supply.
