Remember a little goes a long way. Use a slanted makeup brush for eyes instead of a sponge applicator. Make sure you prep your eyelid with some foundation or pressed powder so that your eyeshadow doesn't crease from natural oils on your lid. Dust a silver/grey shadow on your lid which is the part of the skin that covers your actual eyeball. Look at yourself in the mirror and tilt your head back as if you are a Queen looking down at her people. This makes it easier to see your crease which is the gap between your eyeball and your browbone. Little by little sweep (like windshield wipers) the tiniest amount of black shadow into the crease of your outer eye. When there is no more shadow left on your brush blend upwards towards your browbone for a more smokier blended effect. Finish off with a black liquid eyeliner and two to three coats of mascara. Curl lashes. Dot and blend a shimmering beige highlighter in the inner eye area to make your eyes pop out drammatically. You can also email mac artists for your question and they will recommend the exact colors you need.

Smokey eyes and mascara with a nude lip, since you're not used to wearing much makeup. Red lips are not for the initiates.
Get a tri-colored eyeshadow compact. Sweep the lightest over your brow, the mid-tone over your lid and the darkest on the crease about the middle of your eye and sweep it to the outside corner. To get a cat eye (the illusion of a slight tilt to the eye created using the makeup to add shadow and shape), add some of the darker color to the outside corner and give it a light upsweep. Blend the powders to make the transitions less drastic.
Or just a medium to dark tone over your lid if you want quick and easy.
Always use a brush, NEVER a sponge. Brushes will give you a more natural result.
Mascara. Pretty easy stuff, just brush your lashes before application and swipe the wand over a kleenex before applying to avoid clumps.
Lips, a colored gloss is great. Or you can blend a lipstick and a gloss on the back of your hand and apply it to get the color you want.

For a dramatic look, I would go with some black eyeliner, black or very black mascara (probably smudgeproof and waterproof so it stays on all night), and a deep shadow. Try to get a shadow that is the same color as your eyes but several shades darker. Good colors regardless of your eye color are smoky gray and deep purple or mauve. Eyes should be the most dramatic of everything, so flip out your eyeliner in the outer corner of your eyes for even more drama. For the rest of the makeup, I suggest a deeper blush, maybe a rich red or rosy mauve. For lips, try raspberry - a great color, and very sexy. Swipe on some clear gloss, and you're good to go! Good luck!

Ok, so here's a couple of links. The first one is a virtual make over thing that will show you what you would look like with different colors on. The second one is a smokey eye effect (which I think is dramatic) and the third is how to make your day look go into an evening look. I hope that these help you!

It all depends on your skin tone and your eye color.....
Hazel eyes, use purple, dark olive green and light green shadow.... purple on the lids, light green on brow bone and dark olive green in the crease. Black eyeliner, and mascara.....(I have hazel eyes, it makes your eyes really stand out) put eyeliner on bottom and smudge just a bit, then put on the mascara!!!!
Brown eyes, use 3 shades of Brown.... light all over, medium on lid, and dark in crease.... Oh yeah, dont carry it all the way from side to side... start on the outside and carry about half way....
Use a lipliner 1 shade darker than your lipstick, (will make your lips look fuller) and make sure you put a gloss on top to give it a shimmery look.......

I'd go with a eggplant color eyeshadow, some black upper eye liner, black mascara, a more neutral tone lip with some shiny gloss.
