My boyfriend told me this morning that I was "clueless" when it comes to understanding people, and then he had to leave for work. What would it take for YOU to call someone clueless?

it means to not have any knowledge on a certain subject or to be untaught on anything period. he's saying you can't comperhend people. it would take me knowing hem and their experience on certain subjects. but don't take offense, we all are clueless to some degree.

I think you know what clueless means, it's self explanatory, not having the first clue, there was a daft blonde comedy film of the same name, that carried on this dumb blonde sterotype.
It is a spiteful thing to say, and then to go out and leave you leaves that verbal abuse hanging in the air, is horrible. I hope he takes it back or at least explain why he was so mad at you to have said it in the first place.
So in answer to your second question, what would it take for me to call someone clueless, I would hope I never said it because it's not helpful criticism, it's just mean.

Clueless -- without a clue.
A person whom does not get it -- whatever is the subject at hand.
Slang phrase. If in a AA (look up the term!) meeting I should stand up and announce to all that I do not "----". That would tell them that I was not a member of AA or not? The opposite stance would to say that I do, and have *no* problem with it at all.
You would say that I was clueless in the second situation.

A clueless person is someone who is usually very self absorbed and is unaware of the needs of others. I would say that to a self centered person that didn't think about how things affect other people when making choices.

to be clueless means you have no understanding of what is going on so if someone did not understand what i was talking about then they would be clueless

It's mean. Hpowever, it imples that you are gullible, an easy target for predators and scam people, or believe every nicely told thing to you as if it nwere the truth. It implies you do not understand that people are often dishonest and take you, possibly.

its because he thinks you showed "poor" judgment on something
but it wouldn't necessarily mean your stupid
i feel a person is clueless if you constantly have to repeat something and still doesn't have a single clue

In this instance it means you have no idea what is going with other people and having a clear understanding on what makes them behave the way they do.
