There are some under gravel filters that are built for bowls, and you can use a sponge, or box filters. Note that most of these require an air pumps which are very noisy. These tend to only provide biological filtration. The box filters that pull water over a filter, and have carbon separation filters generally produce way to much water motion. In general I find bowls really hard to properly filter. I highly recommend a 2-5 gallon tank with built in filter.

There are box filters (both powered and unpowered), sponge filters, and under gravel filters available that are small enough for fish bowls. Most people find the sponge filters and corner filters to take up too much room in their bowls, and opt for the under gravel filters. If you are using a filter in your bowl, remember that the filter will need maintenance as well, and should be cleaned or have cartridges changed regularly. For an under gravel filter, this means either vacuuming the gravel when you do water changes or stirring up the gravel to free the debris caught in it so you can remove this debris when you do your water changes.

They won't die come on people get creative.

Look at this little device:

It has a nice little carbon filter and will need a air pump to work but it will let you add more fish. :^) This is for a 1gallon and I am sure there are larger ones for larger tanks. Hook the air filter up to a timer and run when not at home and away you go. Search on your favorite search engine for "round fish bowl filter"

My aunt had a round bowl with a filter in it. You may be able to get one to.

Any fish who needs a filter shouldn't be living in a round glass bowl..... they'll die.
