The only one I am currently aware of, that comes with Microsoft Office, is Microsoft Office Picture Manager and is for JPG files only. If you click multiple pictures and right-click (or go through the menus to edit/rename), it will let you sequentially rename all of your selected pictures once you set the parameters. Just don't click OK more than once! It gets weird!! If you don't like your result, undo it and start again.

Will wait to see what others post -- would love to know if there is a way to do this for doc files as well.

Good luck!!

I would try searching this site for possible programs that would do something like that.
http://www.versiontracker.com/windows/
People rate and leave comments on the programs. I've found quite a few progs that have helped me out...like when I needed to rip my music off my iPod to my new comp. Without it I would've lost 4000+ songs. Good Luck.

It's called "macros". Has to be written in Visual Basic.

I'm just studying that. Someone may be able to help.

Call me old fashion but I still remember how to do this from the command prompt using the RENAME command. For the example given, it would be

rename doc*.* document*.*

It used to be a DOS command, but it is still available under windows 2000 and XP.
