In the '80's there was show I thought was called "Private Eye" that was set in the 50's in southern CA?

The main character was young, tall, good looking, and drove a chopped, lowered '50-'51 Mercury with custom paint. I'm really trying to find the Theme Music which sounded like a modern version of Henry Mancini's Peter Gun.
