Is it true that the sicker you are when you're pregnant then the healthier your baby is and will be when they are born? I think I agree with that after seeing proof for it. What do you think?

Have you heard anyone say that before?

I have heard that as well. I don't know if it has been scientifically proven or not. I have a healthy 4 mo old, and I had morning sickness......

After giving birth to 5 children, and now pregnant with twins...I not only believe it to be true, but have found it to be true.

In the pregnancies where I had morning sickness, I paid more attention to what I was eating. Knowing that many things ended up coming back up, I only ate the things that did not make me sick and were good for the baby. Hence, plenty of lean cooked meat, and soft cooked vegetables.

In the pregnancy that I did not have morning sickness, I ate more. Much more. And gained 60 pounds when my daughter was only 7! I didn't mind eating fast food, because it didn't make me sick. Didn't mind eating fatty, greasy, or salty foods, because I had no problems with any of it.

Now, 25 weeks pregnant with twins, I still have bouts of morning sickness. I have stayed away from greasy, fatty, and salty foods. I instead have cravings for creamed spinach, which stays down well. I also eat a lot of well done, juicy steak and lean cooked chicken. Everything else is unappealing, and I will immediately throw up a french fry. So, I pay more attention to eating the things that my boys need. And, I have so far succesfully maintained a healthy pregnancy weight - big round belly, without the fat rolls.

I have never heard that but I have heard that the sicker you are during pregnancy the eaiser your labour is. Dont think this is that true either. Also I knew a lady who only got morning sickness when she carried to full term. the three pregnancys she didnt have it all ended in miscarriages. Im sure that was individual though. If your pregnant and you dont have morning sickness I say congradutlations to you, you are very lucky!!!

I have only ever had VERY mild nausea during pregnancy. My children were all very healthy as babies. I never had a miscarriage either.

Oh and I also had several very easy labors, the most recent was only 5 hours long. My sister had no sickness with her first baby and she had a 24 hour long labor with painful back labor...

I vote it's not related! I think having a healthy baby has more to do with the mommy eating well and staying healthy during pregnancy than how much she pukes.

No It isn't true. I was so sick and nauseaed that I was hospitalized with both of my children and one had ear infections from 8 weeks till I put tubes in his ears and the other is 6 months old and so far there is nothing wrong with her.

The sicker you are during your pregnancy has nothing to do with if your baby will be healthy.

If you take care of yourself properly and do what you are supposed to the the ensures a healthy baby. (In most cases)

Not true. It has nothing to do with it. Being perpetually ill during pregnancy may be a sign of ill health in the mother, or a sign that the mother is very sensitive to the new hormones her body is making to sustain the pregnancy. Actually, the one mother I knew who was always vomiting with her baby, had a very small child. I was never sick and both of my babies were huge.

This is partially true. I actually saw a pediatrician talking about it on Discovery Health Channel. Morning sickness IS a sign of fetal health. It means that the hormones are working as they should be. Women who do not have morning sickness are more likely to miscarry and their babies do slightly worse after birth than women who have morning sickness. So there you go!

morning sickness is usually caused by increased hormones so it can be a sign that the pregnancy is healthy, but that doesn't necessarily mean the baby will be, or that the sicker you get, the better the baby will be

No it's not true. It has to to do with how your body reacts to the hormones. Although when I was pregnant I tried looking at the fact I was so sick as a positive sign that the pregnancy was strong since I reacted so badly to it.

My wife was sick with both of our children and they were both born healthy, but my sisters were both fine for the entire pregnancy no morning sickness or anything and there kids were both very healthy. I would say there is no correlation. If the mother is healthy (regardless of being sick), then the child is more likely to be healthy as well.
