Ok, hard to give a good answer here w/out specifics, but you want to try something that basically makes him look / feel stupid, so you can go with something simple like -
really? Really is that the best you can do? (But be forewarned that he might get grosser - boys do that!)
Or - wow, how interesting to see how your little brain works - thrill us with another insight! (You might want to leave off the last part to avoid his next stupid comment. He won't feel the need to stop to think of something witty.)
Or - Anyway... and then turn back to your friend.
Or - Wow, is that what they teach you in the remedial classes?
Or - What an imagination - you must have NO social life to have so much time to come up with these things.
Or - do you have nothing better to do right now?
Or - wow, you took time out from picking your nose to come up with that? I feel so special.
Just be careful - if he's big and mean, your best bet is truly to ignore him. He's unlikely to go away if you have a comeback and is more likely to want to rise to the challenge.

Tell him that you need help with a crossword clue. Tell him it's 3 letters and it means purchase. When he says "buy" turn and walk away. He'll look like an a$$. Works better on the phone cuz then you can just hang up after they say buy.
