Search history for Yahoo! Google and the like is also saved by Window's AutoComplete Feature.
After you delete your temporary files and clear your history, do the following:
In your browser:
1. Select "Tools" than "Internet Options"
2: Select the "Content" tab and then the "AutoComplete" button.
3. Uncheck all boxes and click "Clear Forms"
That should do it! But if you really want a clean system, (deleting other files this procedure misses) check out the programs below. One is free, one is not but has a trial. And note I have no financial interest in these programs. Hope this helps:

tools>internet options>delete cookies/delete file/clear history
tools>internet options>content tab>autocomplete button>clear forms/clear passwords

left click in the search box( you might have to double click) all of your old searches should appear alphabetically, mover cursor down, you'll have to delete each one at a time, when it's highlighted push your delete key.

However, if you wish to delete search history saved by the browser and auto-filled when you type on the yahoo website, here is the solution:
To clear your history from Internet Explorer:
1. Go to the "Tools" menu.
2. Select "Internet Options."
3. Click the "General" tab.
4. Click the "Clear History" button. To completely disable the history function, set "Days to keep pages in history" to zero.
To clear your history from Mozilla Firefox:
1. Go to the "Tools" menu.
2. Select "Options" > "Privacy" > "History."
3. Click on "Clear." To completely disable the history function, set "Remember visited pages for the last X days" to zero ("0").
4. Click "OK" to exit.
