I am confused. When I searched the internet, I got some usb flash memory drives for as cheap as $13 and yet they are 1G, while others which are of lower memory eg 256MB area as expensive as $34. I need one for my programming class. What factors do I consider before buying? are there chances that I could buy a wrong one?

Are there some which are only compatible with some operating systems eg PC and not others eg Macs?

Just go for the cheapest one. Most of them are all same and fairly reliable.

I would also prefer Sandisk, Kingston brand. My fren uses flash drive of lousy brand and it spoils within a month. All data inside the drive has gone.

I would advise you to go for a trusted brand. Money is not the matter. Its the quality.

theres deals on those things $10 after rebates all the time and for that price if it quites working throw it out the car window on your way to pick up another one. I know quite a few people that have gotten those cheaper ones and none of them have went bad yet and some of them have had them 10 months now.

I've got a nifty little device called the Bonzai, by Simpletech. It uses SD cards, so you're only limited to the card size. Makes file transfer between my camera or laptop and my desktop a breeze. Cheap, too. Like 9 bucks.

just get the cheaper ones. these USB flash drives are somewhat unreliable so don't expect to keep this one forever. I've gone through dozens of them so if you buy the cheap ones then you won't mind so much when they break down, whcih they always do.

I am partial to SanDisk Cruzer USB memory sticks. In general, they are all about the same and you're not going to buy 'the wrong one.'
