Well, I used to be painfully shy. But over the years I was able to work through it by forcing myself into situations that were uncomfortable. Over time you will become more comfortable in those situations as you get used to them. It takes time and perseverance, but it's well worth it.

I used to be extremely shy and basically looked like a whipped dog whenever I went out in public. The first thing I tried to get rid of the "shyness" was mind altering substances. That worked temporarily but, just put me in even more stressful situations with no familiar settings or people. (Yeah, rehab with a bunch of crackheads and, gas huffers who had destroyed half of their brain cells.) The next thing I tried was, "the idiot act". That didn't work out so well either and, ended up getting me expelled from high school. That's when I finally had enough time for some serious deep introspection. I started off reading books about philosophy and, trying to understand and relate to what I was reading. Then I got over myself, stopped being a "wannabe intellectual", and accepted my own ideas and beliefs as the best guidelines for my life. I basically decided that nothing I do in public will stop people from noticing or having thoughts about me. I also understood that there's no way I can be *sure* of what some stranger was thinking about me that extra 2 seconds they spent glancing at me. So now, I honestly don't care about what anyone thinks of me. (Including my own family and friends.) I still am very "paranoid" about peoples intentions. However, I have no desire to get over that since not expecting anything out of people has prevented me from getting hurt so many times.

I know this is gonna sound corny, but....
All through my childhood and teenage years I had a bad case of 'social anxiety disorder'. I was paranoid in the most common situations..going to wal-mart, out to eat, hanging with friends, ect. I thought that it was somewhat normal and that I would be that way for the rest of my life. I became a Christian about 4 years ago, and through many trials, that way of being is no longer a part of my life. I'm now one of the most outgoing and non-paranoid people that I know. I know there are people that have worked through it on their own, but that was impossible for me. I was a complete mental case. Anyway, hope this helps.

I used to be shy in high school... I mean really shy. I wouldnt raise my hand up to say anything in that manner. But all at the same time, I had friends. I wasnt shy around them. I was afraid of showing people that I existed or what would they think of me when they had a chance to... well something like that. I never really thought about it til now... but anyways, well I believe I got over being shy when I started working at 16... customer service. Meeting different people... well being sociable. Now I know everyone... and everyone knows me... and I am usually called silly... or funny.. or whatever... I just grew out of that stage... i guess! lol

Actually, I am still shy...but not that paranoid. But I pretend I am someone else, someone cooler than I am (hard to believe, huh). And I am also a big believer in mind over matter. Paranoia is merely a state of mind and is not real...just remind yourself of that

I used to be very shy,but the Lord delievered me from that by putting me in two different occupations that "transformed me" into the bold as a lion type person that i am today. Those two professions was the Marines, and truck driving. But i give the credit to Christ, because He knew He didnt need me to be shy, that wasnt the "real me",and He brought me out of it!
