If you read the manual that came with it it will tell you how you do it. Its a bit different than putting music in a mp3 player. For the psp you have to create a music folder in the memory card and put music in that folder if you put music in different folders than your psp wont recognize the music.

As spb said, you just make a folder called Music. You can also do this with photos. It just doesn't work with videos.

get a bigger memory card first. at least 2 gigs in size.
