There is usually a contest put out to students across the country to chose the design for the flag and the colors.
You have not spelt colour wrong, you have spelt the Canadian way. Our spelling comes from the Greeks, and the Romans. There is always more ways to spell a word and in some cases different meaning. or the word is spelt the same but has different meanings. Ex: Serge - a four spool sewing machine that over locks. But if you are a farmer Serge is a milking machine. Baste is a sewing term for large stitches, or you can baste a turkey that you are cooking in the oven, by pouring the juice over the bird.

Canada's flag (my country) is red and white. The maple leaf in the middle is red and white is a good background for any flag. Originally the outside boarders were blue and represented the Atlantic and Pacific ocean, but Canadian didn't want a flag with the same colours as America and Britain.

Red, white and blue are popular colours. American, France, and Britain have the same three colours. Red and blue are both primary colours. Red is strong and blue is peaceful. White makes a good background.

It is interesting that America's flag has the same colours as Britain's flag. Perhaps it was a symbolic gesture, showing that America was like Britain, but different (better). After all, one of the most popular Revolutionary War Tunes was Yankee Doodle, which used the same melody as a well known British folk song.

P.S. are you British? Or Australian. You said your countries flag is red, white, and blue and you question is in English, so I'm guessing your not French. Furthermore, you use the English spelling for colour instead of the American color.

In most cases, colours and design of flags represent an important factor of a country's history or pride. Japan's flag, for example is designed because their country can always see the rising sun from east clearly as well as the belief in ancient times that the Sun is actually a god.

I just can say that here in belgium, the colours of the flag (black, yellow and red) were colours of previous institutions before the independance of the country and they were associated to form our flag.
I'm sure that the choice of the colours have an historical reason.

Your spelling is just fine. The colours of flags are chosen by the powers that be.

Blatt, who calls our flag a bloody rag? Seems to me they aren't true Canadians if they do.

Because people chose which flag they will chooses they had many other choices of flag too. It's a people decision just like when people voted for the election.

Thank you.
