I was thinking along the lines of a Dell inspiron or xps?

Though computer prices have fallen slightly in recent years, the general rule is you'll pay the same price at any point in time, but you'll always get more, bigger, and faster stuff in your computer. You gotta jump in sometime, might as well be now.

It is cheaper to wait, although it might be before Janurary. Couple of reasons a) holiday season sales or free upgrades and b) intel is changing over to a new gate length on their chips, so all their old chips need to be liquidated, therefore sold very cheaply, which can get passed along to consumers. I'm not sure when this is going to hit the markets though. Finally c) around the holidays, and probably shortly after Windows Vista will be coming out on new computers, or as a presale option (you buy a new computer and get a free upgrade when Vista comes out) and there will be deals surrounding that.
I'd think twice about a Dell though. I've had, and heard of many problems with their computers. I prefer an HP or Compaq myself. Excellent customer support and excellent products. If you don't need specialized programs that only run on Windows, look into the MacBook. Traditionally Macs are more expensive, but the MacBook is an excellent laptop, for $1000-$1500 and is very good quality.

Get one now...If you wait you might miss a special buy or deal Dell is handing out like free shipping or givingaway rebates. Plus there is no proof that if you wait the price will actually go down.

i would not recommend ou to get a dell ... becuase i mean watch to news and you will see why they have been catching on fire and other things ... that is why they are so cheap get a mac ( apple) or a gateway
