I think they were a lot of fun. The songs get criticized and most of them were not good songs outside of the movies but they were not meant to be--they were meant to advance the thin 'plot'.

I think it's sad he didn't do more 'serious' music while making the movies ...and that he never really got to try a serious movie.

What do you think?

I agree...They tended to type cast him in those movies but he did a good job and his music was the thing that carried it off..Good,clean type of fun movies too..kinda corny nowadays but still they made ya smile while watching them huh?He may of been a good drama actor as well..guess we will never know ey?

I personally did not pick Elvis as my favorite singer. I perferred Johnny Cash. I have however seen all or most of Elvis's movies and I think he was not a real good actor. His singing in the movies seen to be his mouth moving in sync to a recording. I grew up about 30 miles from where Elvis was born. I have been to concerts where Elvis sang. I'm not a big fan of Elvis, but I still listen to his music whenever I hear it on the radio or tv.

I love Elvis' movies - they are campy and cheezy but they are fun. Elvis wasn't that great of an actor but the man had a voice that could melt steel and sex appeal to match so putting him in the movies was a smart business move.
Other musicians have tried to act and have failed (Madonna) but there was just something about Elvis that made it OK.

Well, I'm 15 years old and I love Elvis Presley's music, which people my age think is quite strange. But, surprisingly I have never seen one of his movies. I most definitely think I should though. I've heard good things about "Blue Hawaii".

His most serious films were Love Me Tender (1956), King Creole (1958) and Flaming Star (1960). The rest were mostly designed to showcase his singing more than tell a story. But they were great fun.

Elvis' movies had too much song & dance in them....even he thought so...but he had to do what the producers & his handler, tom Parker, told him to do.
That's why I love Ani DiFranco.....basically said "screw the establishment", did her own thing, did well & prospered!
amen!

I answered the question in my head before I read your details...I think they are fun, entertaining, and I enjoyed watching them when they were younger. they always had a theme, race car driving, hawaii, nuns...and they always worked somehow.

I used to run to the soundtrack of Blue hawaii, it was relaxing and fun.
