I'm already employed and wondering if earning an MCSD will lead to a raise at my current company, generate new job offers, or help me getting a higher-paying job somewhere else.

Make sure before you spend the money that you ask your current employer their opinion. Ask HR what effect could it have on your career. They would most likely be the first place I would go.

Hi,

I have an MCSE, MCDBA, and MCSD. I got them concurrently while working as a training provider. When I first started with the company in 1999, I had trouble finding even the most entry level job, and finally accepted a counselling position in the low 40's.

After completing the aforementioned certs, (and getting 2 years experience in the IT world), I had multiple offers in the 70's which was extremely good for the region. I also know it made a difference because some companies did not even bother with a technical side of the interview before giving me an offer.

I have also included a link from Microsoft's salary survey which lists the salary for each cert per year. This should give you accurate information on what you can expect with the cert in your area.

One last item, is that while it may generate more job offers. Generating a "higher paying" job offer depends completely on your skills and current payrate. If you are already earning substantially more than average, an extra cert won't really matter.

Hope this helps,

Leo
