I sure hope so..I am 36 and having my first baby.

There are higher risks associated with being a more..ahem..mature mother.

As you get older your risk of having a baby with Downs syndrome increases. For instance, at 36 my baseline risk is 1 in 180.

At a nuchal screening scan they adjust this according to what they can see, so I am now 1 in 800 chance.

Younger women, in early 20's can end up with 1 in 15,000 chances.

But 1 in 800 is still good odds. The risk rises sharply after 35 though, so it's best to be aware.

I worry a bit about my energy levels, as I am not quite as rearing to go as I was when I was 20, but am sure I will manage well, thousands of other older mothers do!

the average age for having a first baby is in the 30's now - so you are not alone.

Yes, i had my fourth child when i was 36. Although your body has changed your mind changes as well i found. I was more paranoid about illnesses and finding baby clubs. None of my friends have children under 15 so it was hard to adapt to being a parent again when my others had grown up. But i wouldn't change any of this for the world. I feel i have accomplished something and my life is now complete.

Yes, it's a great time to get pregnant! Also I noticed a few people warned you about Down Syndrome. They are wrong actually, the risk isn't any higer than a 25 year old. The risk is greatly increased after the age of 45. I know a 22 year old who had a baby with Downs...

(LOL Fanmail...you are too funny)

Of course it is!!!! My mum had me at 36 and my brother at 42. Two perfectly healthy pregnancies, two big bouncing healthy babies!

My grandmother had her children at 36, 38 and 40, again, all healthy pregnancies and healthy babies (and this was in the days before advanced medical care!).

I'm expecting my first. I'll be a week or so off my 35th birthday when my baby is born.

In contrast, my boyfriend's mum had him at 19 and had a terrible pregnancy, and he was born prematurely, very sick and not expected to live (he did of course and is about to be a dad himself now!)! So you can't always assume young means easy pregnancy!

Yes it is fine to have a baby at 36 as long as you are healthy. I am 38 and trying to have my fourth child. GOOD LUCK

Yes of course. Society and modern medicine are very well equiped for moms of all ages. If this is the right time for you, then it's a great time. Your baby will be glad to be alive and have a mom who knows a lot about life.

If it is okay for a 62 year old woman to have a child by IVF then I think is should be fine for a 36 year old to do it naturally.

Yes, definitely. I had a baby at 33 and felt great, my sister in law was 42 and both she and the baby were fine.
