If we discover later on down the road that the only way to survive extended deep space missions is to download our brain into a computer, would you be willing to let go of your body to be able to travel to distant galaxies?

That's a very interesting question. It's a lot to sacrifice, but with potentially infinite possibilities in return. I suppose it would, in part, depend on how durable the computer is. If the computer was virtually indestructible, then you would not only be allowed to explore the universe, you would extend your life as well. On the other hand, if the computer was just as frail as the human body (remember that no computer on Earth has remained functional for more than 20 or so years), then perhaps it's not worth it.
Another possibility is that, later on, you would be able to download your mind into a robot or android, essentially exchanging your body for a machine. Depending on what kind of mechanical body you get downloaded into, this could be a very promising prospect, with the sacrifice of our original body negligible in comparison.

No, but I would take a trip to start building a colony on a planet like Mars even if I knew that I would never be able to get back...

maybe even if I knew that I would only have enough supplies to last for.. oh... say 2 years.. and none would arrive until after I had died.

Of course I will do anything just to achieve my aim with no doubt.
No one can change my view. Life is meanignless without aim. If I could have a chance to travel outer space, that's enough for me.
