Good question and no I am not offended. As has been said above it makes it a more interesting and useful site to be universal in the language displayed. Yahoo has sites in other beautiful languages that are accessible to those wishing to express in their own script . I have no problem going there and not finding English because of course it is not. I think you are very fortunate to write and speak more than one kudos! I will still side with Yahoo on this one, they have no intention of hurting a person of another language which is why they have the other sites set up. I would not go to the German page and type in English that would be seen as rude and useless since they cannot answer me. Smile be proud of your abilities and post where you feel the most at ease. Yahoo is trying to make themselves easy to use and universal. Something for everybody. Hope that helps

I'm not offended, but I don't see a need for such a rule. I do wish people would pay attention to the "Also, spelling and grammar count! Be sure to check your spelling and grammar, as content that is unreadable due to excessive typos may also be deleted" part, and that it would be enforced.

The site belongs to Yahoo. . .they can set the rules. We have a choice to use it or not, and if we chose to use it, the we should abide by the rules. If other languages were used, users would have to spend more time surfing for questions we can answer and can frustrate every user.

To avoid this, this rule seems fair. I imagine, if you wish to have this system in a language you prefer, write to Yahoo and ask. I am sure that it would be to their best interest ti involve non English speaking users. That rule makes sence when it is not a service one requires to exist in today's society. . .However, when it affects the ability of a person who may have problems with English and places them at a disadvantage in life. . .then I would have a problem with it.

If they are the owners, and they like english, why not? If a Russian, or Chinese want their site to speak their language, would you complain when you went on their sites?

I hope everyone is not just jealouse of the English language.

Why should anyone be offended? If there were dozens of languages being used, it would get rather confusing. Yahoo does exist for various other countries...do those Yahoo sites not have their own version of Answers?

Not really... Using one language makes it easier to monitor for the administrators, and also prevents you from having to scroll through a list of 30 questions to find the 2 that are in the language you speak... If you don't like the rule, you should find somewhere similar in your language of preference...

No one should be offended. Check out the little flags at the bottom of the page. Those will take you to the country of your choice where you can use your native language.

Since I'm fluent, never really thought of it.

English is the universal language after all.

Not offended. I'm sure people who are not so fluent would like to learn more English.

AH? There are sections for different languages at the bottom of the page: you can enter there for questions in different languages. You wouldn't ask in German in the Italy section because not all Italians talk German... that's common courtesy.
