I am going to purchase some boning supplies so that I can sew some into my wedding dress. I don't know what exactly to buy. If you know anything about it... please go to this website and let me know.

I need to sew them into the dress b/c it bunches in my middle (it's used - it was cheap - i need to make it my own w/ out spending a fortune)

I need to sew them into the inside of the dress -- because of all the beading, they won't be seen at all :) -- i just need the support from the inside :)

I think you will probably want to go with plastic boning - spiral steel and metal boning would be much harder to retrofit in the manner that you are wanting. Besides, plastic is sooo much more comfortable. You don't need to get them through corset making - just go to your local fabric store and get the plastic ones. I used to make formals and this was what I used - the bodices typically would stand on their own if strategically placed.

You're going to need to sew some channels into your gown to hold the boning - for a retrofitting like this, I think bias tape may be enough. Sew 3 sides, insert the boning, and sew the top shut - easy peasy.... Round the edges of the plastic before you insert them so they don't stab you from inside the dress - this can be done with scissors.

******************** OK, well I was worried about you possibly ruining a great dress =) In that case, buy the boning and some satin (or immitation) and make little pockets for the boning and sew them into the dress. Make sure you buy the right size for where you need it, and put the right amount in for where you need it.

An easier idea may be to get satin the same as your dress and make 2 long narrow (2-3 inches or so depending on your size, that would be for quite a small person) strips that are vertically sewn to the back of the dress at the sides... put a number fashonable grommet holes in each flap and get a pretty cord and tie it up like a corset at the back.....Providing you like the fronnt of the dress =)

Mmmmmmmmmm do you have your heart set on making your own? because after supplies and heart ache you may endure you might as well but a pre made bustier it would be WELL worth the 50.00-100.00

Because you seem like a beginner, I will tell you they are HARD to make... I find and i have been sewing for YEARS and YEARS... NOW if you know someone who sews, I would say go nuts, but I would HATE to see you ruin your dress, then have that to worry about as well... I bet you have enough on the go as it is.

Best of Luck
