Remember after seeing the destruction on the news, the caption underneath the screen showed pledges by large companies and or countries of $30 million, $40 million, $100 million, $500 million......

Is that money still around. Is there a web site that tracks these funds?

New York is the center of this generous donation. How much does New York need to continue to recuperate in the wake of the Katrina disaster.

Oh you needn't worry about the money earmarked for 9/11 being misspent.

If the funds were dedicated to 9/11 relief the 9/11 widows and other groups have every penny accounted for to make sure they get every cent they have coming to them.

The American Red Cross openly stated a week following the event that they have enough donations to handle to immediate needs of all survivors so they were going to use the extra millions for a disaster slush fund, to be used for a Katrina-like disaster. 9/11 survivor groups filed court briefs within minutes of the announcement forcing the ARC and all other charities to direct ALL proceeds to benefit the survivors and only the survivors.

For that reason the ARC began asking people to make general donations not just for 9/11. But there were more court briefs filed to say that more money should go to the survivors, so the ARC had to give most of the funds, even those not so earmarked, above the normal contribution level, to 9/11 groups.

So what happened you ask? Greed!

What a great question! I always wonder that, too!
The thing is- people seem so generous right after something bad happens, and then the money is just thrown away, basically.
I know that a lot of the money donated to the Oklahoma City bombing memorial was set up to pay for the college of those who lost a parent in the bombing. That's a great use of the money!
