Nascar has been bigger than hockey for years, it might even be bigger than basketball at this point. Football and baseball are definitely 1 and 2 as far as popularity goes.
The funniest thing I ever heard was Alexei Lalas say that one day soccer will be the number one sport in America. Never happen!

Nascar is my preferred sport. More television coverage of racing in US. I've always liked hockey, but they just don't cover that here much. This year was the first year that they have shown more games other than during the Olympics. Hockey's more interesting than basketball, or baseball.

then Basketball. It's so boring to watch.

It has always been more popular in the South then Hockey. Since the strike I think it has now become more popular in some of the Northern states. It will never beat hockey in Canada.

Nascar IS more popular than Hockey that is why it is always on a major network.Nascar guys don't go on strike either.Kenseth's on a roll!

I don't even like Nascar but it is big time over pro hockey. They shot themselves in the foot with that season ending strike and I won't pay to see them play again... Of course, I won't be paying to watch Nascar anytime soon either...

Nascar has become the 4th major sport, surpassing hockey.
The next target is baseball - Nascar will be behind football and basketball if women continue to follow and watch the sport.

Oh HELL yeah!! When you consider what this sport was just 5-10yrs ago, it's gone into overdrive.........Also, consider the sponsorship that these teams have.......Seeing their name go round-n-round for 3-4hrs on the screen is great advertisement. Besides, I personally would rather see 43 guys and their machines go head-2-head in battle, than watch a bunch of idiots punch/hit/kick, and break hockey sticks over each others heads just because somebody blocked them!! LOL.......You can see better action, better coverage, a few nice wrecks, and hardly anyone gets hurt...............beside, hockey happens at a (humanly) 30mph......Nascar however,........how's about 200mph!!

Of course not! Hockey is THE Canadian sport. Nascar races could never replace it.

While not a fan, Nascars revenue is huge, and in Americal Nascar is a top 4 sport
