I recieved a bill for $400.00 dollars because my doctor somehow said that he took this test Cystic Fibrosis and he said that all pregnant women gets this test done.
The problem is he never took that test for me and he seems to be charging me for it. I really want to know what exactly is it, it sounds like some type of cyst.
However, I asked him about it and he said that it is a lung type of test that all gynocoligist do on pregnant women. This is my 4th pregnancy and I have never been exposed to that type of testing. I believe that he is up too no good, he is trying to get money from me. Please let me know if any of you women have ever been in a situation like this? Thank you, for reading.....

First of all, I am not a doctor and I don't play one on tv. I am also a man, but do have a nephew with CF.

It is a lung disease and there is no cure at this time.

The reason for the test is that for a child to be born with CF both parents have to be carriers. Neither one of his parents have CF but they were carriers. This means my wife may or may not be a carrier also since it runs in families. We had the test taken because I have no history of CF in my family, but who knows until the situation arrives.

I do think the test was a good idea, but I do have a problem with him running the test without your knowledge or permission. Contact your health care provider to see if that test is covered or what your options are on paying the bill.

Cystic fibrosis is indeed a lung disease that is sometimes symptomatic of severe asthma. There is no cure, only treatment. Most people are diagnosed as children, and few live past age 25. This is NOT a routine test for pregnant women! A gynecologist or family doctor would send a person to a pulmonary specialist for such a test. Alert your insurance provider and find another doctor

I was tested for cystic fibrosis because it runs in my family. They test you to see if you are a carrier. If you are carrier, they will test your husband, and if he is also, they will test your baby once the baby is born. Even if you are the carrier, your husband has to be a carrier, and then the chances are 1 in 4 that your baby will have the disease. It's a lung disease where your body over produces mucous. The test itself I believe is just a blood test, although they can do a sweat test, which is more accurate. If you are wondering if you had it done....call the office and ask for a list of all the tests you have gotten done, because you are trying to figure out all your tests, and if you didn't get the test done, call your insurance, and tell them. They will take care of it for you.
Good luck!!

Unless you have a family history of the gentic disorder they usually do not test for it I believe.. I had my son in 98 and he was born normal but at 3 mos he was constantly sick and always on a breathing machine (svn) like asthmatics have. We got tested because he was sick till he was 2 and never no cause. Cystic fibrosis is when the lungs have no hair that remove the mucus from the lungs ( phelem) and people end up drowning in their own fuilds. Usually by the early 20's. No cure and it's genetic.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a common hereditary disease that affects the entire body, causing progressive disability and early death. Breathing difficulties are the most common symptom and result from frequent lung infections, which are treated, though not always cured, by antibiotics and other medications. CF is a multi-system disorder of exocrine glands causing the formation of a thick mucus substance that affects the lungs, intestines, pancreas, and liver. The standard test for diagnosis is a sweat test which evaluates the level of chloride excreted by the body. A multitude of symptoms, including sinus infections, poor growth, diarrhea and infertility, result from the effects of CF on other parts of the body. Just be carreful. god bless Ya

Cystic Fibrosis is one of the worst things you could ever have!
They probably wern't checking you but they were checking for the baby.My cousin is 20 and has cystic fibrous and so does my moms friend. You die from it eventually. But one of your parents I think has to be carriers of it or maybe its both not quite sure. You usually die youg as well.Usually like in your early 30's or later 30's if your lucky.Basically in other word it's a recessive genetic disorder affecting the mucus lining of the lungs, leading to breathing problems and other difficulties, people also get tired very easy.Well good luck!! Hope the baby is healthy !! :)

Cystic Fibrosis is a lung disorder. You produce a very sticky, thick mucus that can clog your airways. The mucus is hard to clear and it's hard for your lungs to expand. I think your doc is full of it!! I did not go through any testing like that.

Sounds fishy to me. How developed could the baby's lungs be yet to test for such a thing? Even with blood work??? I would let your insurance know (if you have insurance) so they can dispute it. If you don't have insurance, ask your doc for proof that he had the test performed. Have him show you the exact orders, the date of the test and the results from the lab. If he can't produce it, don't pay it!!

For one, Doctors are not aloud to take tests without your concent or without telling you what it is for. A test for cystic fibrosis would be taking by and amnio test. Did you have one of those? where they put a needle into your belly button and take some amniotic fluid to test it? If so thats what that test is. Cystic Fibrosis is a deadly disease that they do test for but seriously if you didnt consent to it start b*tching!
