My best friend's friend from High School ( did you follow that) is going through a divorce. He is the sweetest man you'd ever hope to meet in your life. We were never close, but when his wife kicked him out of the house, we started talking more. Now we talk daily and hang out and I am loving being friends with him, but I worry about him. He drinks a lot and has good days, it's the bad days...they are very very bad days. He knows that I'm "there for him" but can anyone suggest what specifically might help? It means a lot to me that he trusted me and I want to repay the favor by being the best friend I can be.

always be there to listen to him, give him advice, and comfort him. im sure going through a divorce can be a tough thing, and having a drinking problem as well. but be careful what you say about his drinking. some alcoholics take things too seriously and can flip out. good luck.

He needs to stop having pitty parties. Boast his spirits in taking him out. He needs to find himself again and move on. Get him to go out with friends and do the things that make him happy. Just be there for him and listen to him. Good Luck.

Check out whether you are the reason for divorce or not? If yes, then leave him to save his marriage. And if not, speak to his wife, know her views and try to solve their problem. But in this this case, try to be neutral for both of them.

Just be there for him through all of this, and tell him that his drinking could lead to addiction, and let him know that he is a good person and better than all of this.
