If it is automatic make sure it is running and in Nuetral. Almost all dodge trucks have to be in nnuetral to check them. The reason is that the tranny pump does not operate in park.

I assume you have a manual as an automatic has a dip stick you check with the engine running after it warms up to normal temp. The manual trans. is checked by crawling under the vehicle and pulling the plug on the side of the trans. case and sticking your finger in to tell where the oil level is. Just be sure the vehicle is on level ground.

there shouldnt be any transmission oil in the engine.
To check the transmission for oil,take out level plug on side of gearbox or if auto pull dipstick while engine is running and warm.

automatic: check at normal operating temp. there is a dipstick near the firewall for this.
manual: check cold. there is a plug on the trans (you have 2 get under the car) remove the plug, fluid should just flow out of the plug hole. basically the trans case is filled to the opening

you didn't say whether it was a automatic,,or standard shift,,there is a big difference in the two of them,,if you will be sure and put all the necessary info you can put on the vehicle,,we can answer your questions a lot better,,sorry i couldn't help this time.,,also it would help if you include the year of the vehicle also,
