Celebs, entertainers, they are still people, they have one vote each like the rest of us, and I don't know anyone who is shy of giving their opinion on what their country is doing. It is the work of Marge Simpson, that "If you can't say anything nice about someone, better not say anything at all", and perhaps their voices are louder than other peoples, with the medias' microphones under their noses... What are they supposed to say, when they can't be proud of their country? I'm English, I have problems with my country, give me a platform and I'll sound off.
I envy them their position, and respect their candour. I also happen to agree with thier line of thought, and believe they should be able to express it.

Then I feel as though I'm in very good company. The difference being that I'm usually safe, except for some yocals that would like to break my knees, but limit their actions to hate mail.

I hope the Dixie Chicks are getting the same protection as a vocal right winger who recieves death threats. Kind of like the Chicks and the the people stranded on rooves by Katrina. Took up to a week to get some off, others didn't make it. But it only took 24 hours to ship cargo planes of missiles, cluster bombs and weapons to Israel when they started getting real flack from Hezbollah. You gotta be on the right team!
Now, I'm going out to buy some music!

It's sad but celebrities have always been a target for some crazies: stalkers, death threats, etc. The fact that the Dixie Chicks like to make themselves out as being persecuted for "speaking truth to power" is amusing. They didn't. Thet insulted the President. They insulted some of their fans. Some didn't want to buy their product anymore. They now claim to be happy about that, because they want to sing for people that "get it". Well OK. Do that then. I can't help but roll my eyes.

See, no one minnnnnnds if you have a differing opinion, Oh that is all fine and dandy. LOTS of other stars and celebs have been there and done that ( Jane Fonda.... Spielberg...Hanks...Sarandon....and lots of others) Where the DCs made their big mistake was making it Known on an INTERNATIONAL stage, during a time when the US is at war. Oh my goodness...NO NO NO!! That is a time when the US citizens are supposed to be supportive of the US gov't and put a face to the rest of the world and let them think that all americans think that the pres. is infallible. Unable to make a single mistake. You do NOT dare to disagree with him on a level other than in your mind or possibly the privacy of your home with the lights turned out. Publicly, on an intern'l stage with people to HEAR you?? No!! That is an unforgivible political sin. That was their mistake.

I just hope America can just get OVER it and realize their great talent and go back to loving them. I know I never quit.

The "land of the free" includes both the Dixie Chicks and the people who disapprove of them. But death threats are not free: they get the FBI down on you. Still, we do have freedom of speech, and that means for everyone.

No. It's the consequence to an action. The Dixie Chicks have every right to say what they believe. Everyone else has the right to say they approve and to say they disapprove. Freedom of speech is a two way street. Now, I don't approve of death threats. That isn't freedom of speech, that's a threat.

OHHHH I get it only ONE side has freedom of Speech. You know it isn't free speech to send a death threat. I don't care HOW childish you are being and how stupid you are being when you send it you still have freedom of speech to do it. Oh and most ME countries wouldn't have let them come back to the country, or would have SHOT THEM on site. See the biggest problem with their comments was actually that they were in ENGLAND not the US. Oh and the REAL problem came from her fued with Toby Keith. People had moved on over her comment and she knew it so she had to go after him. Then he ended it but she had to get the last word by wearing a T-shirt that said F.U.T.K. for a song at a concert that was telecast to the award show. So in effect she was wearing it for the award show. That was when they had to make themselves scarce.

The Dixie Chicks, much like Jerry Lewis and Al Franken needed to find a new agenda to deflect their failing popularity. Lewis did it with his 'Jerry's kids' theme, Franken with his liberal left diatribe, and now the Dixie Chicks with their hate Bush theme, to a world audience.

How despicable can they be and how low can they stoop, these has been entertainers who have lost their audience, their popularity, and their dignity!

America is the land of the free, meaning that people are free to issue death threats at thier leisure. the middle east is backwards. they are more direct with their wishes of death for others.
