First off, this doesn't belong in Entertainment...
Second, yeah...you made a mistake. You had no right to discard those things. At best you might have hidden them away and then checked out how she felt before actually tossing them.
It was up to her to decide what to do with those things. She may have put them away a while, then had them down the road for mementos. You threw away part of her life.

It is not okay. Doing that was very presumptuous. Who are you to decide your friends personal possessions belong in the trash? People feel emotions strongly after a break-up; they are supposed to. You created an emotions tornado and put yourself smack dab in the middle of it. Your friend may stay mad at you because she has an additional source on which to focus all those strong emotions.

Thats waaaaay overboard on your part!! You have to let a person grieve and make amends with herself at her own pace; on her own time. You took matters into your own hands without permission. Your motives are admirable, in that you care so much for your friend, but that was a bit much.

Someone did that to me. Old girlfriends stuff, New girlfriend threw it out. I got over it. I still wish I had it sometimes though. That was 20 years ago.

Yeah, you commited robbery/theift/unlawful misappropriation of property & you lost sight of the boundries. Your friendship will be able to be repaired when you make regrets to your friend & your friend accepts your apology & forgives you. You must never take anything that isn't yours & you must recognise that it's not your responsibility to make decisions for your friend, only advise.

Yeah, big mistake. Never mess with anyone's stuff, even if it does break their heart. Believe me on this one.
