Hawking is a brilliant and inspirational man, but in the big scheme of physics, it ain't even close. In one year, A.E. revised our understanding of space and time, explained Brownian motion as direct evidence of atoms and helped lauch quantum theory by showing how the photoelectric effect could be explained by quantizaton of electromagnetic radiation. And his greatest work, general relativity, was still 10 years off. He also helped develop quantum statistics (Bose-Einstein statistics) for particles with integer spin. Hawking's greatest work, that black holes aren't totally black but actually emit "Hawking radiation", has nowhere near the importance of A.E.'s efforts. Only Newton can hang with A.E.

Einstein and Hawkins have the same Intellectual power but Hawkins was guided by Einstein, therefore Einstein is probably more clever than Hawkins.

They are both really great. I guess Einstien had the upper hand since he could actually talk without a bunch of machines. Einstien did work in a more general life sense and Hawkins is more of an outer space guy.

Well Albert Einstein is dead...and Steven Hawkins is very much alive and is an amazing person who still is learning and sharing so I think he is. He humbles me.

Both are pretty smart. Although, I must say that Einstein had a bigger impact on science than Hawkins. So, I must say that Einstein was smarter.

einstein ofcorse.because i think that his discoveries totaly surprised the then science giants and also his theories predicted a lots of things which are found absolutely true.remember einstein was an ordinary(not having a pg degree) sp. vis.in a german patent office.

Einstein work is pure mathematical little resmlence to physics.
Hawkins work has more resmblence to physics.

Which is more important: left or right ventricle of your heart? After all both together give life to you by performing equally vital work.
