If you buy a Playstation 3 60GB in America it costs $599, which is about £317, the UK cost is £425. Now with some international electrical products, such as most I-pod products, the actual power the machine requires is different from what is provided from the mains. So, if I bought a PS3 in America, and used an adaptor, could I save myself over £100? If the internal power needs are the same internationally, then yes. If anyone could find what the power needs are, I’d be grateful.

I purchased a convertor in my local DIY store for an electrical item I bought in the States. You'll have no probs!

if I am not mistaken, you are gonna have power problems, and I dont think you'll be able to find an adapter. The United States runs on 110V/60Hz whereas most other countries are 220-250V/50Hz. If the power supply is like the PS2, which runs on 12VDC (if I am not mistaken), you are gonna run into a lot of problems and probably won't be able to find an adapter to give you that output. You might also run into the problem with games. Since the United States is in a different Regional Code than the UK, if you buy a US system, you'll have to buy US games (you won't be able to go to your local electronic store and buy a game there unless you install some mod chip). This can easily put dents into your pocketbook by adding up international shipping costs.

That sounds like hard work. I think it would be much easier to buy the Ps3 in the country you have it in cause some games don't work. Ps3 like Ps2 has region codes. We can't play Japanese games without a mod chip, and somewhere down the line you might save about $200 from buying your ps3 in the US but then you will need some sort of software so your ps3 can play your region games.

You would need a TV capable of NTSC playback, otherwise a power adapter should work. I very much doubt it will be a switching 110~240v PSU, but sometimes they are.

PS Buy games online from the US to circumvent any problems playing UK games on a US console. You may have to pay import duty on them but it may still work out cheaper per game.

You can buy covertors quite cheap but you will have to play US games on it as the UK or Euro games won't work until they bring out something like Action Replay for the PS3
