NO it isn't right, but it happens. Sounds like your girlfriend is struggling with some prejudicial beliefs...which is pretty typical (when you look at the media programming and so on, let's face it...it can be pretty white-homogenous -- which isn't fair) Be strong and love who you are. My husband is very dark (darker than most African-Americans) being a South Indian, and I love his skin...In South India a common comment is "she is beautiful even if she's dark." This part of India has mostly dark to very dark people...British influence?!

To be honest, I grew up in that kind of atmosphere. Kids at school humiliating me and thoroughly disrespecting me because I was darker than they were! And it didnt stop there, adults did it too! My grandma to this day still says so and so would be cuter if they werent so dark. Thanks alot grandma. *rolls eyes*

But yeah, the kids were rough. YET some of these same people today get pissed at me for being an interracial dater. I am open to all races, including my own, but they get mad and shun me. But seriously, how can they when they never accepted me in the first place?

Something I've figured out is that SOME black people are very critical of our race and they say things like that without seeing it as negative.. sometimes its the crispiest black in denial but most of the time its the lighter skin ones. They may never see it as offensive, why should they? They dont live in your skin.. (same goes for white people and others who do it)

Luckily, in my IR dating lifestyle, the men that I've dated could care less what shade I was, in fact they LOVED my color. I have never been told by a lover that I was too dark.

But I digress, I think you are beautiful regardless how dark your skin is. Even if she meant it innocently, it shows where her roots are. They cannot be changed, she is showing you right now that this might be an issue for her. Find a woman who appreciates you to ur fullest and will not downplay ANY part of your magnificent body! GOOD LUCK!

That was a little wrong for her saying that, but I can honestly say that I've said that before- I used to just like light skinned men and I wouldn't say that I just would talk to dark skinned, but my preference was light skinned, but don't be discouraged, I got over it and what makes it so funny, my husband is dark skinned! Just take it as words, its not about your skin tone its about whats inside, don't get too caught up on the physical, because anything can happen to alter it, but no one can change whats within .... think about that

I've heard that too. It's just a stereotype that people who are ignorant go by. I have seen plenty of people that were just as beautiful dark-skinned as the next light skinned person. You just keep being you because you were made the way you are for a reason and if people can't see that then it's something wrong with them and not you. As long as you keep that chocolate skin clean and smelling good. You'll always be sexy in my book.

Best wishes...

Yeah, she's being racist, even if its subconscious or subtle. You don't have to be attracted to all people that don't look like you. But for someone to say ALL people of a certain skin color are ugly is dumb, ignorant, low-class...did I say dumb and racist.

That is not a compliment that she paid you, that's a backhanded insult (intentional or not). Its irritating when people say stupid things like oh, you don't talk like a black girl or don't act like a black girl or dress like a black girl and think they are paying you a bloody compliment.

My husband is a deep dark chocolate and he gets hit on all the time from all races because he's strikingly gorgeous (just my humble unbiased opinion).

Arrangement, symmetry or lack or symmetry of facial features and body shape are the generally used measures (that's what intelligent, unbiased, mentally free people typical use anyways) of a person's attractiveness, not freaking skin color.

dude, I love brothers no matter whether they're light skinned, dark skinned or whatever... sounds like that gal is a racist.. SORRY, but that's how racists think (that all dark skinned people are ugly) and it is also very disrespectful to say something like that...
Drop her skinny pale *** and find yourself a real woman who'd love you and wouldn't care about anyone's skin color

Every person is attracted to something different, different traits. Many people just aren't attracted to dark skin. Get over it. And they aren't racist either.
