It means manifestation, appearance, or in the context of spiritual development, a higher level of awareness. The Christians have made it their own, but actually, many people have epiphany experiences: suddenly, you understand -- you "see" -- something profound that you hadn't understood or been aware of before. Illumination is another term, which can be pretty literal or largely metaphorical, depending on your experience.

Remember, there are mystics in other areas besides Christianity. There are even mystics who do not espouse any formal religion, but trust their own experience and insights for a personal relationship with the numinous.

There's a whole bunch of new words for you to look up. May they serve you well.

Epiphany is a Christian festival celebrated on January 6th each year. Although we know that Jesus was not actually born on 25th December it is universally accepted as his birth date. You will have heard the song 'The Twelve Days of Christmas' when several gifts were given. Well, Epiphany is twelve days after Christmas and the feast is to celebrate and signify the arrival of the Three Wise men or Magi bearing their gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. Technically this is why we give gifts at Christmastime. Remember from the Bible how the Wise Men became aware of the birth of Christ by seeing the bright star in the East and which they followed until they found Jesus. Unlike many stories would tell you they did not arrive on the night of the birth as did the shepherds because they called at Herod's palace in the mistaken belief that the new 'King' would be there. Herod, of course, ordered the deaths of all recently born male babies thus causing Mary and Joseph to flee to Egypt with the baby Jesus.

i think it's something that truly, all of a sudden, "Clicks" in your mind.. u Understand something that was dark before. usually has to do with the mind, and the ability to "realize" something that was confusing, or not making sense. for example, u may have been a horrible kid, mean to ur parents, don't listen to anything they say...... later when u grow up, u suddenly realize one day that everything u've been doing and thinking has been So bad for you, for ur family.... that Realization that u have been doing something and thinking something so wrong before, is the "epiphany".... now, are u going to DO something about that epiphany is another story =T.....

An epiphany is "an intuitive grasp of reality." You have an epiphany when an answer suddenly hits you, usually out of the blue.

to feel for another person is empathy (not epiphany). An epiphany is a realization that will change your life. It's like finally seeing "the light", like when a lightbulb lights up over a carton character's head sometimes. get it?
hope i helped

My friend and I just had this debate, actually.
I think it means a thought or a realization that you get about life in general.
She thinks it means that it is a thought that you now act on to change your life.
I'm right according to the dictionary.
