sounds like your syncronizers or worn they are thin brass sleaves that sit in between the gears to assist in the changing of gears to prevent damage by raking as they shift when they get worn it becomes harder and harder to shift and also will let gears slip out. This happens more so in your lower gears as they are the ones that tend to get shifted and used the most especially in large trucks

This happens for one of two reasons; Either the cut of the gears, caused by continual abuse - dragging gears when engaging (grinding them when engaging, especially if not using clutch or if using the clutch you beat the syncro's) OR Stick and or linkages are out of adjustment and or worn, and when engaging gears the stick is not placing the respective gear cog fully into mesh.
Either of these problems will eventually destroy the gearbox. It is in fact a false economy to assume that it is still working and only slowly getting worse. IT WILL FAIL, and probably at the worst possible time. Cost to rebuild the box now will be far less than the cost in a month or so or when it fails completely.

Could be a linkage misadjustment. Perhaps the gear edges are worn and have become tapered on the areas that match the ajoining gear. If so, this will cause the gears to slip out. Pops

It sounds like the power divider to me.Can you get someone to sit near the rear too listen?A mixture of tyres will make the PD jump out and in.try putting the PD in and see if that fixes things.

I ran into this one night at work, in my case, the front drive pinion gear was bad, now there was a vibration too but I don't know if your having that.

More than likely the back section is shifting when it isn't supposed to. Check air supply and pencil regulator. Be certain that the filter is clean.

Syncrow may be worn. Is definitely in the transmission, so may have to pull and check for wear in the syncrow and the shifting forks.
