I personally think it is reverse-racism. It disqualifies whites and asians who have perfect or close to perfect qualifications for a college or a job because of a want of "diversity."

It's just strange how people will say that black people don't have a fair playing field to get just as good of grades for some reason.... Get the same marks as whites and asians and you wouldn't have to have Affirmative-Action to get jobs or into college. It's ridiculous.

Yes, it is reverse discrimination...through the past, minorities like asians worked their way up the social ladder, as wells as Jews in Europe who were confined to the ghetto--two formerly marginalized groups, but now highly successful through emphasis on education and hard work--and because they are on the same playing field as caucasians, they are the only minorities who are not eligible for "affirmative action" these days...

if struggling minorities (that receive the affirmative action benefit) such as blacks and hispanics had the same work ethic as "model minorities" like asians and Jews, they would be on the same playing field.

Affirmative action only sounds positive because it encourages diversity...but it encourages diversity and equality in the wrong way. In fact, I know some people who benefit from affirmative action and are against it...they think it's like saying "without our help, you can't succeed" and all this does is give feelings of inferiority.

Just because many Ivy League universities and top schools aren't racially diverse, doesn't mean those not accepted should be given an unfair advantage. Those who are accepted deserve it because they earned it-not because they are a certain race.

If asians and Jews can succeed without affirmative action, it means that other minorities can too.

*To the above poster: ("Obviously you're an asian because you keep putting asians in the equation.")
...the point the asker was making was that asians are one of minorities that don't benefit from affirmative action-that doesn't suggest anything about his race!

In some respects I am against Affirmative Action....and I am Hispanic. In it's defense though, we still are a racist country that the media hides well. The good ol'boy network still exist in major corporations and at the small business level.
Within the next 100 years the playing field will be equal....,but I am sorry to say that by then the Whites will be FOR Affirmative Action because the Hispanic and Blacks population is growing at an accelerating rate. I just hope us minorities will no how to handle being the majority.

Obviously you're an asian beacause you keep putting asians in the equation. However afirmative action is for minorities, not just African Americans. And as far as African Americans not getting high enough marks to get the same jobs as white and yellow people that has nothing to do with it as all. You can take a highly educated African American and give them the same interview as a white person that doesn't even have a degree and he will get the job based on the color of his skin or should Iack there of. I am a very educated African American woman and I am against affirmative action because I don't need a law to tell a company to give me job I can get on my own. I've always gotten every job that I interviewed for. It's ingorant people like and ignornat people that are going to give ignorant responses to this question that make affirmative action necessary.

I am definitely against affirmative action, but if we are going to have it, I say make it apply to major league sports as well. Make them have 13% black players, 4% Asian, 8% Native American, etc. Just do this and watch how they change their tune. The blacks will be the ones trying to throw out affirmative action.

I hate affirmative action. Being asian? I get something like...reverse affirmative action.

It's harder for us asians to get into engineering schools. It used to be that us asians only had to be good at Math to get in. But then they made it Math and English. After that they made it extra activities.

A study on SAT Admission shows that asians have a -50 point deduction when applying to college.

What gives?

I mean....Juliard turns down asians the most ><

I don't like the term reverse-racism because it hints that affirmative action is not exactly racism. The program should be abandoned precisely because it is racist. The only difference is that it comes with the governments stamp of approval,

If you believe Blacks are to stupid to make it on their own and need a special privilege then you are for Affirmative Action and a liberal. But... then you would be a racist.

I know from personal experience Blacks are not stupid by any means, therefore I am against Affirmative Action as being racist. But... somehow that makes me a racist.

Carlos Mencia said something that I thought was great about Affirmitive action, forgot how it goes but it's something like this.
"If a black man can't get a job, a white man took it. If a mexican cant' get a job the white man took it. If a woman can't get a job, the white man took it. If the white man can't get a job, affirmitive action gave the job to the black, mexican, woman, and the gays."

Basically he was trying to say that if you're qualified for a job then get a job, take resposibility and stop blaming others for your actions.

I remember one college had newspaper ads that read:
An Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity Employer.

I used to laugh. Can't be both at the same time.

Affirmative action is fine. It's the effort to expand the talent base in any endeavor.

It's quotas that are and should be illegal. Unfortunately, most people can't tell the difference, even judges.
