In the matter of magazines I am a Horse Illustrated fan but Practical Horseman would be second on my list. In terms of tack catalogs my favorite is Dover Saddlery, but it has more English tack. State Line Tack has the better western supply. Both the catalogs have website where you can subscribe and when I order magazine for the first time I usually buy one then send off for it with the little card inside, that way I have an idea of what I'm getting.

The best ones that would focus on TWH and gaited breeds would be the magazines "The Gaited Horse" and "Trail Rider". Some great catalogs are from National Bridle Shop and Big Dee's Tack in Ohio. You can do Yahoo! searches for their websites.
Also contact the gaited breed associations (TWH breeders and exhibitors, Spotted Saddle breeders and exhibitors etc.) You have to join their assn. but get the magazines free for a year. Good luck!

Some good magazines are....Horse and Rider, Trail Rider and Equus. Equus is the best for horse care in my opinion. Horse and Rider and Trail Rider are more training and riding. A good tack catalog is State Line Tack, they have all sorts of tack and horse supply in english and western. I don't have links to all these, but you can find them on the internet.

stateline tack, dover saddlery, if you want to find less expensive tack and things then just go online on a search engine of your choice and type in horse tack and you'll find a whole bunch of different sites and almost half of them will have where you can receive a catalog through them, that is what i did when i was looking for some things, and then when you get the catalouge just look through it and if you don't like it you can just throw it out
