It's a great question. I don't know why there is suffering in this world. I can only think that there is a "purpose" for it. Not a religious purpose but maybe that is what the person needs for soul growth. Not necessarily karma but maybe one person suffers so much and learns to open to it and then in turn helps others who are suffering. Maybe suffering is an opportunity to grow and open our hearts.
Sometimes even with the worst tragedies there are millions of little spin-offs of positive events and changes that happen in people that wouldn't have happened if the event hadn't taken place.
If reincarnation is true than we all have been here before and will be again. So maybe this drama has a purpose and we learn what we need.
This really doesn't answer your question but I can only say that in my experience my suffering is the world's suffering. Circumstances may be totally different & they are so much worse for some people but if I can open up and touch my pain then maybe I can help others. Empathy & Understanding.
Through suffering I see that there is no seperation.
You post great stuff on here!

There is a very logical reason why there is suffering in the world.
It involves an issue affecting mankind's entire existence, both past, present and future. This issue is also the foundation for many people being atheists.
Since it is such a large-scale question, it really requires some diligent research and study. If you would like to know where you can get a satisfactory answer to this question, I'll give a hint.
You can get help from a group of volunteers, some of whom you may encounter in a public place such as a public transit station, street corners, etc.; or who may even contact you at your home or other convenient place of meeting. Completely free of charge they will answer this and any other questions you may have about "big issues", such as 'what is the purpose of life'?, 'what happens when we die'?, etc. Any guesses who they are? Another hint: they are both male and female, of all ages and backgrounds who are doing this volunteer work to help people with getting satisfactory answers to such questions. By now you probably have an idea of whom I am speaking. Next time you encounter one of these volunteers, ask them the question posted in this discussion panel. Remember, if YOU are the one asking the question, the conversation is on your terms--IF you are really serious about getting a satisfactory answer to this question...

because there has to be. with out it there would be no life.
think about, if a whole generation of people worldwide never experienced suffering, then they wouldn't know anything about it. A world full of people like that can be conquered by one maniac. Or there might be mass chaos because everyone would end up spoiled and a world full of spoiled people can turn on itself quickly.
so basically suffering needs to be there, if it goes away, it'll come back much stronger. it's a human design flaw.

Unfortunetly, there is suffering in the world because Satan is still ruling. God gave him free reign for a limited period of time and so far, while he's the ruler, he's orchestrating every pain, and disaster, and tear shed. Thankfully though, his time is drawing to a close. If we all just hang on a little bit longer, God's love will take all the bad away forever.

Without suffering, there would be no compassion. And if you tell me to tell that one to the people who suffer, I've already done that one. It's what you do with the rough parts of your life, and the times that you suffer, that shapes and molds who you are. Bad things happen, sometimes for no reason at all. However, once we're past them, we can sometimes begin to comprehend why it might have had to happen in the first place. Trust me, I've been there.

A lack of compassion.
Compassion is the desire to ease the suffering of others. Without compassion one is self centered and self absorbed.
Physical pain, mental anguish, disease and deformity are natural states in this plane of our existence. These states of being are not the source of suffering.
True suffering may only be experienced in the absence of compassion.

In part, for the atonement of sins against God and others. Before Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, there was NO such thing as disease, and suffering.

There is suffering in this world to wake us up to our eternal nature and our eternal life of bliss. By suffering the pains of material life we may eventually understand we are not meant to live in this material world. Our real home is the transcendental sphere, paravyoma in Sanskrit. We are not meant to be here suffering like this. It is unnatural. We are like fish out of water here. We want to live eternally in full knowledge and complete bliss, but that is not possible in our present state of consciousness. So this material world is like a prison meant to rectify us. We chose to try and be enjoyers and controllers like God, without God. That is not possible. We cannot be happy without God. The Lord comes from time to time in various incarnations to display His pastimes of love to attract us back to Him. He also leaves us the scriptures with information about Him so we may learn about Him. But if we refuse to accept this help, we must suffer; birth, death, disease and old age, life after life.
If we want freedom from all suffering in this life and forever, we must take to the devotional service of the Lord. This is our constitutional position of complete happiness and freedom.

science says : we're not mature enough, there are so many things we don't know about yet!
will we someday ? maybe..
religion says: it's the eternal fight between good and evil. that's for keeping balance in the world, for reasons only God knows about.
will we someday? NO!
on which side are you ?
