Good question.

And why do we sometimes answer their questions? Let them look it up.

Furthermore, I dislike those answerers who respond with a long list of website addresses.

I like questions that are interesting and thought-provoking, that require the synthesis of information and ideas from my own knowledge and maybe several different sources, that ask for one's reasoned opinion -- like this one, for example.

In responding, I often consult google, wikipedia, abebooks.com, and the like, especially to double-check facts, dates, names, and the like. And I sometimes refer an asker to a particularly informative site for further information. But I answer only questions that challenge my thinking, and I respond only with writing that doesn't just duplicate what someone else has already said in an answer -- or on a webpage.

That's what makes Yahoo! Answers fun and keeps me coming back.

I hope you find it as enjoyable as I have.

When you google something your asking a machine the question and machines don't always know what you're talking about. By asking in this type of environment you get answers from a real person who may relate to your problem.

Because you get to interact with a lot of different people with different ideas from around where -ever. It's fun to read the silly answers that are sometimes replied. Besides, these web sites are not people with problems to solve. It makes it all the more interesting.

Because not everyone has an all-knowing monkey named Cilantro or a Poodle named Hoshek with an IQ of 180. For some of us, Google is the closest thing to an enlightened animal bretheren. I actually have a bunny rabbit I named Google but he is mildly retarded and cant answer **** so THANKS FOR MAKING ME FEEL BAD

Good question. Some of them may want to ask the question with their own framework, with some of them looking for an answer that will support their own rationalizations rather than an honest one.

But for people just looking for books with this and that character in it, or songs with this or that lyric... I don't know... It doesn't make sense. You don't even get points, LOL.

I think they like interacting with the other people. Sometimes they ask silly things, just to see what the response will be.
Others may not really know how to search effectively. Some can't spell and that messes up their internet searches.

Possibly some people are just not very good at doing the searches, or rewording their search if they don't immediately get good results. Sometimes they probably already have some answers, but are hoping by posting the question they will get additional information.

I think they just like to feel part of this community. It's good to know you are getting people thinking/taking trips down memory lane.

No-ones getting hurt so it's harmless fun :-)

Because sometimes you just want to interact with other people, even people whose answers are wrong and whose opinions are crazy.
