I don't think that you'd be acting like God either way. You'd either be acknowledging a living species' instinct to survive by saving the planet. Or you'd be either somewhat mis-guided or mentally unstable to completely destroy the Earth. Afterall, you'd have nowhere to return to!

If a meteor was on collision course with earth. From the time it is seen to impact you have to run a spacecraft at an equivalent speed just to meet it halfway. Allowing for acceleration and deceleration at the maximum a human could stand it would be too late to do anything about it. However a guided missile might make some difference as only acceleration would matter. But two objects closing at 20miles per second would be quite something.

The film "Armageddon" is a fake- the real Armageddon is in the Bible and is God's war upon wicked human society, and not a meteor nor a nuclear war (Revelations 16:14, 16). In the near future, God will execute out judgement towards those who are not doing his will. So, those films that talk about Armargeddon being a meteor or a nuclear war are TOTALLY fake.

People revel in armageddon, but no one can know the will of God. Just blow the meteor up and save my home already. Then we will say that you acted as a savior, though not necessarily as God.

acting like a twit perhaps, not God. Its fair to say you'd annoy alot of people, almost everyone.
You could use the situation to renegotiate your payscale.
Or say "it didnt work!-----hahaha only kidding!"

Sorry to disappoint... it wont happen that way... but happen it will, since it's already written and nothing we can do will stop it. God decides, not man!
