just don't use laxatives to lose weight. It's really dangerous and addictive even if you watch out because you flush out all your nutrients and they contain addictive substances. The best way to lose weight safely is by DIET (no carbs, fried food, sugar, fast food..) for about three months or till you reach your target weight and then a healthy (but with carbs like brown rice and bread...) and EXERCISE! Seriously, it's not worth taking dangerous laxatives to lose weight. If you are really overweight, then go to a nutritionist or dietician.

Oh reading all these answers I just had to add my two cents.
Instead of using laxatives to loose weight, consider using metamucil Fiber mixtures once or twice a week. The fiber will ride your bowels of any extra waste that could be building up. It is most certainly not gross, yet a normal bodily function. With cancer on the rise one should cleanse their colon and large intestines anyway. The extra waste is a contributor to bloating.

well...since you asked....this is gross...but on average we carry around about 8-10 lbs of waste in our colons at any given time....and on top of it...about 5-10 lbs of water weight. so......seriously....if you flush that ...ahem....STUFF through your system, that is what you are losing. i have gone through series of colonics and they do honestly help your body maintain your proper weight...and help your system digest food properly.
laxatives taken for weight loss CAN be quite dangerous though...and if you are thinking about it, it can indicate other things such as a tendency towards bulimia or other eating disorders......in other words...just DONT. it is really bad stuff. treat your body well. eat healthy.....get exercise...and lots of love in your life. love is the best thing for health...especially when it comes from within.

You take them 1/2 hour after eating, and drink lots of water to help push it through. Your body then eliminates the food without taking in its vitamins and nutrients, then starts feasting on your own muscle tissue and internal organs because your body is malnourished. That lovely, fashionable weight loss is due to your body cannabalizing its own self.
