They used to represent 24% of voters, now the chapters are no longer in all 50 states, they don't support the republican party's weak stances on gay marriage and abortion, so they aren't showing up the polls in as great a number. WIll this change the republican platform? If not, can the republicans garner enough support from the other 76% of voters?

I think Christians vote for all three parties. I think Republicans have recognized that many Americans feel that there is a spiritual/moral crisis in America and they have done a very good job of appealing to these voters. If the Democrats acknowledge these voters too, I think you'll see many more Christians vote for the democrats too. I think there are fundamentalists on both sides of this debate. There are secular fundamentalists and religious fundamentalists and I think the Christians right is in some ways a response or a reaction to secular fundamentalists. I think the "Christian Right" would become less interested if the democratic party refused to define itself as pro-abortion and pro gay marriage. I'm Canadian though so I'm observing this from a ways away...

Panic on the streets of London
Panic on the streets of Birmingham
I wonder to myself
Could life ever be sane again
On the Leeds side-streets that you slip down
I wonder to myself
Hopes may rise on the Grasmeres
But Honey Pie, you're not safe here
So you run down
To the safety of the town
But there's panic on the streets of Carlisle
Dublin, Dundee, Humberside
I wonder to myself
Burn down the disco
Hang the blessed D.J.
Because the music that they constantly play
IT SAYS NOTHING TO ME ABOUT MY LIFE
Hang the blessed D.J.
Because the music they constantly play
On the Leeds side-streets that you slip down
On the provincial towns that you jog 'round
Hang the D.J, Hang the D.J, Hang the D.J
Hang the D.J, Hang the D.J, Hang the D.J
HANG THE D.J, HANG THE D.J, HANG THE D.J
HANG THE D.J, HANG THE D.J, HANG THE D.J

Something about this song just fits here.

Well darlin' if they don't support the Republican's weak stances against gay marriage and abortion. What makes you think they will be voting FOR Democrats when the Liberal Democrat stance is strong for gay marriage and abortion.

What Liberal Democrats still do not realise is a Conservative Democrat is probably a conservative first and Democrat second. And IF your candidate is liberal and the other one is conservative guess which one they will tend to vote for?

republicans have 38% of the voters in there pocket all ready .they vote there paycheck and the tresury department stamp of the state or fed is on each one .
38% of americans are paid with tax dollars in america and some of them will not be getting a raise if democrats take over so it is very hard to beat republicans these days .
YOU can not mention tax increases to pay down the debt and you can not mention tightenong the purse strings .SO what can democrats run on .END the war is it .,

I think they will be a much smaller factor this year. Many Christian conservatives will stay home this year due to Bush's war, his position on the poor, his support for the FDA ruling on Plan B, and various other social issues.

Don't know why Democrats hate Christians so much.
Maybe most Democrats are Muslims and want those 72 virgins. Do Democrats care whether the virgins are male or female?

Hopefully they will loose their stranglehold on the republican party so that we can get back to a truly conservative political platform instead of the theocratic platform that it has been.
