DO NOT USE OIL!!! oil on oily skin stands to reason your makin it worst, i used to work at body shop and trust me the most astringent (best thing to dry the skin out) is tea tree , not the oil, body shop do a range of washes and moisturisers but best of all they do a small pack of 'dry papers' they are about the size of a matchstick box and are made of thin paper but have tea tree hydrated into them you dab them over your 'T' zone, (the area along your forehead and down your nose) although they can be used elsewhere where you get oil build up, and they literally soak up the excess oil before you apply make up .

I have oily skin as well and have done some extensive research... first let me say that you should celebrate your oily skin. It is proven that those who have oily skin often don't age as fast... so when you are 50 you will look 40.. So celebrate.

Now having said that, you shoudlnt use things to dry up the oil. Your body produces the oil as a natural barrier to the outside world... When you dry up the oil your sebacous glands go into overdrive and start producing excessive amounts of oil.

While I don't know about vitamin E, I do know that it is ok for someone with oily skin to use essential oils like ylang ylang or geranium.. these oils actually decreaes the amount of oil your face produces. Additionally you might consider mixing some of the oil with 100% pure aloe vera gel. A good astringent is just pure witch hazel... it works wonders.

Celebrate your oily skin, I know I a do.. that's why I am 38 and I look 28.

Peace and Love

I am 24 and used to have really oily skin. About a month ago I started using Philosophy products and they have totally changed my skin. My makeup used to melt off an hour after I applied it, but since I have been using Philosophy my makeup lasts all day, plus my skin never feels or looks oily, my pores are almost invisible and I no longer have breakouts. I recommend Hope in a Bottle moisturizer for oily skin and The Present clear makeup, you can't go wrong with their products!

Okay, so using oil when your skin is oily will most definitely not help at all. I suggest washing your face every night with an oil free cleanser then using a astringent before you go to bed and when you wake up. But don't forget to use an oil free mositerizer with SPF so you can have great skin!

Vitamin E oil is good for oily skin, but should be used at night. Olive oil is a great skin cleanser and leaves your skin supple and soft.
Apply olive oil to a cotton ball and use it to wipe away excess oil and make up. Let it sit on your skin for a while (20-30mins) and then use a hot towel to wipe your face. No need for any kind of soap.

The LAST thing you want to do is apply more oil to an oily skin. More beneficial would be an oil-free moisturizer- oily skin will make more oil when it's dehydrated. So drink lots of water, too!

u say u have oily skin, but does that imply u have pimples / acne? in that case u may want to consider that when oil on the skin mixes with bacteria then it forms pimples. thats just a simplistic way of putting it as well. oily skin usually has large pores, and if u dont clean regularly (twice a day at least) bacteria gets clogged in them quite easily...
suggestion:
scrub your skin 2x per week with an old softish toothbrush and porridge oats.
shrink your pores by using a face wash for oily skin or something with lemon juice in it (lemon juice reduces scarring and fades blemishes).
if u use natural lemon juice (maximum one teaspoon) in a mixture of 1 egg white (remove the yellow) beat the egg white and lemon juice until frothy, and spread over the face, leave for 20-30 mins and lather rinse with face wash. splashing cold water acts as a natural astringent, however, if you use an astringent thats a great idea, cause it aids in keeping pores closed and shut to bacteria.
also, drink lots of water, at least 2litres of it every day.
if u exercise at different times of the day, ensure u always wash built up sweat off it afterwards, dont leave it sitting there on your face.
when i had pimples on odd occasions (i was the only 1 of my entire family of 6 who never got acne, probably because i was so desperate not to i tried everything on a limited budget) i used vitamin e oil to reduce blemishes when i picked pimples out of sheer impatience. Vit E is good for fading blemishes but you've got to try to use it at night only, and make sure its the runny kind, not the thick kind that smears all over your pillow. use it once you've scrubbed your face, steamed it, and given it a mask treatment. don't just use it on top of the oil that's already there, but, to answer your question, yes, you can still use it, i did, and my skin is not half as oily as it started out to be when i was younger. also, my facial skin is generally flawless...(35 now...)

Hi, I am a skin care therapist and vitamin E is very good for all skin types, it helps rebuild your natural collagen giving a less appearance to fine lines and also heals skin faster. My advice is to only use Vit. E at bedtime, as it tends to get a bit heavy for oily skin. Try using Neutrogena if you cannot go to a skin care clinic for the prescriptive lines, such as Eminence Organics or Dermalogica. Never use bar soap to wash your face, it strips our natural ph balance hence making skin oilier, even causing breakouts. Try using a gel-wash and follow with a toner(this brings back our ph balance), moisturizer specially for oily skin, one with salicylic acid or glycolic acid(help fight acne) and ofcourse sunscreen of at least 15%. Good luck and hope this helps....

Haven't you heard of soap? If you have oily skin you need to wash it more often with something that will cut through the oil. Last time I checked that is what soap is for.

You should cleanse, and tone your skin thoroughly, however do not use products that will strip the skin of its natural oils and use a hydrating moisturiser that is oil free. if you have a daily routine doing the above it will improve your skin and help to balance the oil produced.
